 YORKSHIRE PARKIN
8oz fine oatmeal - medium works just as well
 1 tea spn baking powder
 1 tablespoon ground ginger
 8oz flour - I used 4oz of sr and 4 of plain
Mix the above together in a large bowl
 1 egg
 10 fl oz milk
Beat the above with a fork
 8oz brown sugar
 8oz dark treacle
 4oz butter / marge
Melt the above either for 1 or 2 mins on high in a microwave or in a pan
Combine the lot and cook for 30 mins on 180 then 30 mins on 150. Check with a skewer
As I said its a very runny mix but goes nice and sticky after a day or so.
Make it lighter by using 4oz golden syrup and 4oz black treacle.
Just having another look at this - seems quite a lot! What size tin am I going for here?If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0

How come when I start a thread I get positively loads of help, but the moment the thread gets merged then I'm on me own? <sniff> If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 <sniff> If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0

Oh har har. I've been missing for months before, but people still remember who I am! I've been missing for months before, but people still remember who I am! Penelope_Penguin wrote: »Maybe a PM to the postyer of the recipe Penelope_Penguin wrote: »Maybe a PM to the postyer of the recipe
Ooo, no, I'm not sure about that. I don't want to pester people. 'part from you, of course! :rotfl: 'part from you, of course! :rotfl:
I just thought that recipe looked big, that's all. 8oz of oatmeal, flour, sugar & treacle - seems a lot compared to the recipes I normally use. I don't want my loaf tin overflowing and making a mess on the bottom of the oven, it's bad enough as it is. :shhh: If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0

Looks like you could halve the recipe easily using a medium egg and a bit less than half the milk. I would guess that would fit into a med/small loaf tin. Just a suggestion ! Look forward to your report back after baking.

Does anyone know where is the cheapest / best place to get a syringe for injecting fruit cakes with alcohol?
I currently poke them with a skewer and drizzle the alcohol on top but it's hard to do it without it pooling in places on top and making parts of the cake a bit sticky.0

Have you tried asking the pharmacist in your local chemist shop? He might have a chuckle when you tell him what it's for but if he's got syringes in stock, they'll probably be expensive as they're probably sold in sterile packs. I suppose you could also smile nicely at the Receptionist at your GP's surgery and ask if if they've got any travelling pharmaceutical salesmen's free samples.0

Thanks I'll try the pharmacy. The dr's receptionist is a bit of a miserable so and so, it's hard enough to get her to get you an appointment let alone anything else so I might pass on asking her 0 0

Doctors' sugergies must have hundreds of syringes being tossed away right now. Think of all the flu injections they've been giving !0
