aah, no - what a shame!
were you able to scrape off the burnt bits? sometimes, they're ok after doing that - might not look special but may taste good.

Tried that and it tasted rubbish, really stodgy. Will go back to my tried and tested sponge cake recipe I think.

Ah well, at least I tried. Thanks everyone for their help.

What a shame, after all your effort.

Pineapple and dessicated coconut ( if you have any) would go nice too as a pina colada
cake, and the pineapple juice would have loosened it slightly. I liked the sound of the cherry and almond though. Better luck next time.

when I make cakes they never rise properly. Taste good but about about 1/2 the height of cakes I see in shops! What am I doing wrong?

It might just be your tins are too big for the amount of mixture. Perhaps if you posted a typical recipe, and tin size, we can offer more help :)

Anybody got good recipies for biscuits, buns and tray bakes?

Nothing too complicated please - I am competent in the kitchen, but no master chef.
