I visited the one in london colney and it was very busy. Lots of the children's books have gone but still plenty of other stuff left. Spent mine on atlases and reference books for the kids which are always useful0

Just got back from London Colney... Quite busy but loads of stock on the shelves and they did seem to be putting more out too!
Just bought about a dozen Lonely Planet travel guides all 50% off.The Head Honcho (does very little work)0 -
my husband went to the one on Oxford Street at lunch. He did say that things that were already marked at 50% off (in their standard sales) were not reduced at all from that point. Still waiting to hear what he got.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -

Let me know if there was much left as I may go there tomorrow
It doesn't make sense though - couldn't they just transfer the stock to another Borders store? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Probably cheaper to sell at 50% off and close down than work out logistics of moving all the stock. The stock needs to sell at some point or they will have too much, and at 50% off they probably still have margin! The Head Honcho (does very little work)0

Brilliant I'm going to check Oxford Street tomorrow as I need to buy loads of books at the moment for college!
Thanks OP.0 -
anybody know whether newcastle outlet got reduction as well?0

Even at 50% off you are probably better off getting your books from something like Amazon.
People are using the stores to browse books and then go home and buy it online - no wonder they are closing. 0 -
Amazon does cheap books, but often not THAT cheap.
For example most lonely planet guides are 35%-40% off on Amazon (which is great for them) but if you want to buy a huge collection of them (I bought 12 today) the extra 10-15% is relevant... so this was great for the travel books

was at oxford street branch today, the queues were very, very long, was like the next sale all over again!!!.... I had to put my books down in the end, as the waiting and heat made me feel ill, but some good bargains to be had0
