Writing that post above made me feel rather down in the dumps so I've done something positive - I phoned up HMRC and got them to reduce my payments on account, so I just face a £300 tax bill in January instead of a £1,000 one. That has really cheered me up. I still have to transfer a lot of money from a credit card into my current account but at least it will be £700 less.
I also had a huge clear out from the shelves round my desk. I've thrown away a lot of paperwork from the last ten years of freelancing. Sad but cathartic.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
2011 will see the 10th anniversary of our moving into this house, and also the 10th anniversary of my being in debt. It hasn't been a great ten years and I don't want to be still here in another ten. I am reading very enviously of Hypno in her happy new home!
I think this is almost the downside of the site.... its very easy to get into 'competition' with people, even just in your head, and then you're disappointed when you can't/don't compete!
Its fab news for Hypno, and well deserved, and your time will come too ( and be equally well deserved!). Your life holds a different path to Hypno's, different family/work/social paths, different challenges etc etc etc, and you are amazing in your own ways....
Keep your chin up

Absolutely....I may be debt free, but to do it I had to lose my father, fail at my marriage and downsize my house.
I AM looking forward, and will endeavour to make the most of what I have, but please please don't be envious, because I wouldn't want anyone to have to reach that one goal at the expense of so many other "life" things.

It's only the new house I envy!
I don't feel in competition with other DFWs exactly, I more feel I'm losing a competition with myself! I am longing to do something decisively debt-busting but I can't think what. Right now I'm going through my Amazon listings raising and lowering prices depending on the competition. But I only sell two or three books a month now so that's not going to make a lot of difference. I need to get some quick editing jobs in. Things have been quiet these past couple of months so I will have to contact some of my best clients and remind them that I'm here.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -

Hello, sorry I havent been able to keep up with things.
I too am succumbing to the lurgy today. Thought I had been lucky and missed it.
I am in the new house, with boxes all around me. I still brought too much stuff with me!
Here is wishing you well for 2011, and remember that even if you are still in the same place as you were 4 years ago, at least you are not any worse off!.
I have a few debts now, which have crept up on me, in the disguise of Utility Bills! Eek. Just waiting for the final bill for Electric at the cottage.Thats going to be horrendous. All my house was electric, and in this cold weather it was on all the time.
Anyway, they cannot shoot me for it so I will just have to see what happens.
I digress again.
Do take care, keep the chin up, and lets all hold hands and walk into 2011 with a positive mental attitude, and embrace our fresh starts, what ever they may be.
Hugs to Hypno, I cannot believe I started posting on one of your threads 3 odd years ago.! If Only I had known then what was ahead! EEKWhen I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
Seax, the only thing we can do is keep plodding on. Can you draft a list of what YOU want and then whats achievable?

Hey Seaxwyn
Just dropped in to wish you all the best going into 2011 its going to be our year.... i can feel it!!!
I have just sat and done what you did days ago... re read where i was and how things haven't changed but instead of it getting me down it's actually made me feel quite empowered to actually get up of my lazy butt and make some changes!
I have updated my debts and while i've not reduced them that much they have yo-yo'd so much in the last few years that they now seem to finally be on a downward trend... my current debt going into 2011 is £26667.80 and i know you were around about the same at one point in one of your previous posts so how about that challenge we were talking about??? Even if its only to see who can be the first one to £26000 or even £25000 which i know is not that much but to be honest every penny that comes off the debt is an added bonus....
Try and keep your chin up hope the family are recovering from the dreaded lurgy and whatever this new year brings we can deal with it.... we just have to get on with it
Happy new year when it comes

Seaxwyn, I like the idea of self acceptance in your posts at the top of this page - I know you then mentioned being envious of Hypno's new house, and I understand that, but self acceptance comes first, I really think it does.
I hope your 2011 is filled with what lucielle mentions - things you want, and that are achievable.2023: the year I get to buy a car0
