She too is heading for a school that has a definite "work/life balance" reputation going for it! She will be doing History, Human Biology, Psychology and PE. She was originally doing maths but on the induction day decided it was going to be a bit much so swapped it for History instead.Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. That sounds like a good combination.
I won't know for sure what mine are doing till they return from the interviews, but DD2 seems pretty settled on French, Spanish, English Literature and Philosophy. DD1 is anyone's guess! I hope she gets a helpful and sensible interviewer.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
OH has received a letter saying he has been accepted as a sessional lecturer at the college! However it also says the course leader will contact him if he is required to teach this term, which begins on 1 September. So I guess he is not needed. Very odd.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620

Hmm....talk about give with one hand and take away with the other!
Hopefully some sessions will come his way soon, though!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
I choose to be optimistic about this. Surely they will give him a session or two, and once he is in more are bound to come his way.
We applied for the reduced life insurance today and his application is going to the underwriter. Two of his immediate family died young from cancer, so he may be rejected.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
Good luck with the insurance - if you don't try you won't get. The worst it can do is say No, but at least it won't put you in a worse position financially, just not in a better one!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. Out of the blue this morning I got a letter saying my child tax credits are going up from £42/month to £219/month! Totally unexpected. What with my anticipated £200ish/month increase in take-home pay, AND the fact I've lowered life insurance by £50/month, my SOA should in theory balance!
OH still has no confirmation of his actual teaching hours, but he has done some induction and training at the college so presumably they are going to use his services at some point.
Despite all the very good news, I am skint as ever. 11th of the month and I'm close to my A&L overdraft limit, so any further spending has to go on NatWest. Oh and paper round money of course.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
Gosh that is a huge amount! I have never been able to fathom tax credits at all.
I hope that it does enable the books to balance. Have you re-done a proper SOA yet to see how far out you will be?
Fingers crossed for OH to get some work too.Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
I haven't redone the SOA yet - waiting to find out what my pay will be, and of course if OH gets the work.
I can't fathom tax credits either. Mine have gone up and down over the years with no obvious reason - I always give them accurate information and if they choose to give me more money, I am very grateful!Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620
