After years of struggling to pay debts down only to watch them creep up again, I've just in the space of half an hour paid off £22,491.62 and I don't owe a penny to anyone.
My ex and I finally sold our house and agreed on a division of the proceeds between us which means I feel comfortably off.
I never really imagined my DFW journey ending this way. It feels a bit like cheating. But really, I never imagined it ending at all and to be debt-free before I'm 50 is a very good feeling.
As I don't have a house or any other security, and I have four children to support, I can't be complacent. The need to work hard is no less pressing than before. And my rented house is a lot more expensive than the last one. I've got two part-time jobs which together bring in £1011/month - not even a third of my rent - so I need to keep going on the freelance work. That's not been going badly lately.
And aside from moneywise, life feels good. Two of my daughters are on the cusp of independence, all four children are fantastic young people that I'm proud as possible of. My ex-OH is living in a rented flat nearby. I hope he will be OK. I never really realised all the time we were together quite how incompetent he is when it comes to looking after himself. I have to find the right balance between living my own life and looking after him if necessary.
I am very grateful to all the friends and fellow travellers I shared the dark times with on this website. I am sure I will be back posting for advice about staying solvent. Thank you and good luck to every one.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
