Glad you had a great time at the festival.
Is the house all sorted now?
chevI want a job that is less than an hour driving away from my house! Are you listening universe?

The house is almost all sorted but the builders have disappeared before the finishing touches. We still have the scaffolding up and the exterior paintwork needs to be done. Apparently the project manager has been off sick so hasn't been chasing up the chaps who are doing the work. Meanwhile the inside is a huge mess once again so some effort is needed there. OH has been tidying up the garden but at snail's pace.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620

it's a new month. debt reduction in August was a princely £59.03 but at least it didn't go up. I took the kids to two festivals and bought all our meals at food stalls, which was not frugal but we all had a jolly good time and as we didn't have a holiday, I don't feel bad about it.
This month should see a bigger drop as I've put in a comfortingly large invoice for freelance work. This freelance work should continue for about another month but not long term. So I need to make some serious efforts to find more work - also to replace my main job which I am not enjoying at all, but it is well paid so I musn't grumble. Also it's sending me to Amsterdam and India this year.
We moved into this house ten years ago today. I'm glad it's recently been renovated (and has a newly painted lipstick pink front door!) or I would feel pretty depressed about it. The house is the main reason for our debt and while lots of nice things have happened while we've lived here, I've never liked it very much. I am determined that in the next ten years I'll lose the debt, lose the house, and live a life that is more free and fun.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
A fun month and still the debt went down - that's what I call a result. Even more of a result is that you don't feel bad about it! The rest of your post sounds very positive, too (apart from not liking the job, of course - but changing it is a project in progress, so still positive).

hi Seax! A life that is more free and fun - that is certainly something to look towards.
And in the meantime the debt continues to go in the right direction, and you have a lipstick pink door!! Our door is only allowed to be black, as are all the others in our block......oh to be a rebel and paint it lipstick pink when no one is looking :grinheartSuccessful women can still have their feet on the ground. The lipstick pink was not my choice!Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620

I'm not sure it would be mine either.....but the thought of rebelling against the black we are contracted to have is somewhat temptingSuccessful women can still have their feet on the ground. Hypno, what would be the penalty for painting the door lipstick pink?"Green pastures are before me,

Hypno, what would be the penalty for painting the door lipstick pink?
I'm not entirely sure......but am sure I would be forfeiting any future invitations to mulled wine and mince pie gatherings from the neighbours.
Right, where's that paint pot?:rotfl:Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0
