Will you be able to cope with the stress better this time, ie when there is no freelance work, and things are tight?

I think so. My debt is less huge, my children older and I've given up on expecting OH to earn anything, so that takes away a major source of stress.
And I'm actually pretty good at dealing with stress - I know that doesn't come over from this diary, because I write it when I'm worrying about money (and vice versa). But I think I have a good sense of proportion so if the debt goes up one month, I will remember that I made the decision to take the job knowing that that was a possible outcome.
The freelance pay I get in Oct will clear another annoying debt, so I would at least start the new job only with long-term, low-interest debt. And with less than a year to go on my big loan.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
You are sounding a lot more hopeful, Seax. I do hope this job comes off for you. But, if not, there will be something else and at least now you have done the sums and know you can risk a smaller wage.."Green pastures are before me,
Which yet I have not seen;"
I'd love to be a good example - instead, I am a horrible warning.0 -
Hi Seaxwyn,
Just discovered your diary. I'm self employed too and seem to be in the same boat in terms of fluctuating earnings and trying to bring debts down. It's not easy, because sometimes, even when you make sacrifices, there are unexpected things to pay for the business, or the tax bill is (usually) larger than you think it's going to be.
But I am determined to have some peace of mind and will do my best. If you don't mind, I'll follow your thread.
Wishing you the best of luck!0 -

New month, new debt low, total today is £20579.95. That's a drop of £2404.86 from last month WOO HOO !!!
I don't know quite how that happened as the drop is a lot bigger than the amount of freelance pay I received, suggesting that I am managing to meet the outgoings from my regular pay. Long may it last.
Next month should see another biggish drop, as I will get another big freelance pay cheque. However the freelance work ends this week.
I had my interview for the low-paid job yesterday. Not sure how it went - if they don't offer it to me, at least it will save me a difficult decision.
Beautiful day, we're planning a trip to the seaside tomorrow, hope everyone has fun in the sun.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
Tremendous news on the debt reduction!
Having had the interview, would you want the job if they offered it to you?"Green pastures are before me,

Well done, Seaxwyn! That's a great big chunk0

I don't know if I would want the job! I was hoping to tell from my gut reaction when they offered it to me. I do know that I want a change from my present job, and I want more flexibility and freedom, but I don't know if that was the right job for me.
Come on fate, please drop the perfect opportunity in my path!Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620
