Lots of possibilities but no certainties as yet. They have offered me £175/day, which is less than my usual day rate but I work it out as just over £39000 if I work 5 days a week for 45 weeks in a year (i.e. allows for 7 weeks hols, including bank hols). So an increase on what I am getting now.
However, my contact says he won't be able to confirm 100% for a couple of weeks but it's pretty much 95% certain. Shall I am agonising over whether to give in my notice now so I can start earlier - they want me to start asap. I know it's risky.... what do you think?Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
My view would be that your new employers should understand that until they confirm everything in writing, you cannot hand your notice in to your existing employer!
This encourages them to sort their act out as the sooner they do, the sooner you can start work for them. It also means that there is no risk to your income stream...
For them to even think that you might do anything else is highly unprofessional and they are living in 'La la land'

Thanks all. Obviously you are right. The new employer didn't realise I had a job as I have always been freelance before, so they assumed I'd be able to start quicker. I hope that this isn't going to scupper my chances.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620

But surely it would be no different if you were contracted to someone else for 5 days a week indefinitely on a mid to long term project?
Even as a freelancer you have to see it through or arrange to hand over to someone of a similar calibre before you could start working for someone else.:j Proud Member of Mike's Mob :j0 -
