yes you're right - investment banks are good but will have some ups and downs. retail will need a long-term recovery.

there will be 'mini-recoveries' that won't develop.

Putting it all in perspective GS average trade is around $10 - $15 million dollars.

Or 5 - 10 million Vodaphone shares in a single trade.

Seems they employ some of the best talent. And the reason for the high pay is that the employees are all profit commission based. Very few meet the criteria for this level hence the average pay packet. Not a normal boring retail bank.

We're currently in what's known as the bull trap, housing market recovery in the longer term over the next few years - no chance.

Unless the redundancies stop now and the companies re-hire all their workers before the knock on effect really starts.

Same thing happened during the last two crashes, slight rise as the media and sectors with vested interest big up the market, then reality hits - boom.

Some estate agents sold no houses at all in December, so 1 sale would equate to 100% increase in sales - hardly realistic figures and frankly the daily mail... it's hard to even say those two words without a wry smile.
