How much do you have in the savings account? If you paid the OD off now, and had to dip into it later, you wouldn't be back to square one, you'd be £100's better off. (29.9% - 4% = 25.9% loss on savings)

Have you checked your CC statement to make sure you aren't being charged interest on the shopping?

Im so sorry for being dense about this...i get that id be charged way more than im getting in interest just now, but im worried that if im laid off, or off work sick etc for any more than a week, I would have to dip into that overdraft which is only £1500 and im not sure if the bank will even let me keep the overdraft after getting in so much hot water. once that has gone, i will have nothing to dip into at all and im quite scared of leaving myself in that position! would be paying interest and not earning interest either.

I get where you're coming from with that though, and have cut down how much i put into the savings by half this month, will use the other half to pay off the overdraft. I may be able to do a bit more over the next couple of months, but really want to keep hold of the savings but not for the money, for the peace of mind of knowing i have 2 months wage there!

I am paying the shopping on the same day as i do it, so definatley no interest though:D which is good!!

Thanks so much Daily for your advice, it is much appreciated.

Have only had the savings account since last year, after the OD and the loan etc, cos I really wanted that 3 months wage buffer!

Me and my OH work together so if the company goes bust its likely that we will both lose our jobs.

I am going to keep the savings where they are just now until we hear about the goings on at work, theres alot of rumours just now which probably aint true lol. If we get the assurances that no jobs are at risk etc then I would be happy to use that cash to pay the OD! so thats a potential plan and hopefully one I can use, much rather have no savings than no job lol

moving on to today, well the bus passes are due to be paid, £70 for the 2 of us, so ill be taking that out the bank this morning, plus i just discovered that when the bank amended my direct debits, they cancelled my tv one so i now need to give them 2 months worth! ayekarumba lol

Have convinced OH to spend time with his mates on sat, playing pool i think (badly if his past form is anything to go by!!) so i will get the ebay stuff on. will need to outlay for envelopes and stuff, any idea where the best place to go for stuff like that is??

made a potato and bacon salad last night with leftovers from a bbq, and have enough for my lunch today. hopefully wont spend anything today over and above the busses!

    Still cheerfull lol

havent paid anything today, feel a bit bad, but am waiting for that darn £50 from play.com to put in the overdraft.

not sure how long it normally takes, any ideas??

I need to pay an extra £200 a month onto the overdraft to get it paid off by xmas, then Im going to throw the £200 that normally goes there into the cc, aim to have that bad boy paid by valentines day!! Then its just the loan to tackle. bit nervous bout that but im sure Ill make it if i can stick to my little ones beforehand!!

Im about to have a cuppa, plenty left for a virtual one if anyone wants lol :D

is it me, or does the DFW thing cause argumants between spouses??

Im very into this, saving and making sure that the sspare money goes into debt where possible, therefore homecooked meals, using leftovers for more homecooked meals, days out to the park or the cinema (we have prepaid years membership so dont pay to get in)

On the other hand, he wants computer games and takeaways every week.

He feels that as we have money in the bank, we can do it, but i cant explain properly that the money is technically allocated elsewhere!

maybe its just me, I have been a bit naggy lol and while hes happy for me to do what im doing, he isnt helping much if u no wot i mean!!

    gggggggggggggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!

im going to make some fab chicken pies, show him he dont need a take out lol

Have you already used the three month free rental code from Lovefilm? I think you can rent games as well as DVDs ... or could you have a little pocket money each, sufficient to buy second hand games? Does your partner have family or friends that would agree to do swaps?

Mr Fire Fox used to live on takeaways and junk food. Now I buy curry paste, Chinese sauce, frozen southern fried chicken, oven chips, naan bread and bhajis. When he wants a takeaway I tell him what we have in stock - it doesn't work every time but often enough! ;)

    thanks fire fox!

well, we were with Tesco DVD for the trial which is run by Love film so they probably wont let us do the same thing unfortunately. might as well give it a go though.

We have had a bit of a chat and he realises that although the debts dont seem that big, they're important to me, and to us being able to to the dream house thing that we want!

He loved my homemade chicken pie, and was glad he didnt have chinese tonight!

we do have pocket money, and he uses that generally for games and stuff, i just feel bad when he takes extra out the bank during the month and says he'l pay it back with his money from next month, I do tend to moan lol

Im starting to build up freezer stuff so we always have something there, that way im hoping laziness doesnt kick in!!
