Is it possible to haggle with Sky as a new customer?

I am currently a Virgin customer but I want to go to Sky in order to get HD and the sport. The package that I want would he a little over £60 a month and I was wondering if it would be possible to ring them up and negotiate on that considering times are tough?
Has anybody had any success doing this or are Sky comfortable enough not to have to offer deals above and beyond the normal.

They might offer you a sweetener, such as half price for three months. They already do special offers for new customers. Be sure to stress "it's just an enquiry". Be sure to say you are very happy with Virgin and sound reluctant to change. Don't tell them exactly what package you want - just mention sport. See what they come up with. Tell them it's more than you can afford. Best of luck!0

Sky with almost 10 mlllion customers can afford to say no, but what they may offer, as moneymaker says is a deal, not necessarily money off, but maybe Sky movies free for six months. Always worth a try.:DLike good food and drink?
Try Hotel Chocolat and Baileys.

Just be careful if you get offered a " free 3 month deal" on anything; my future son in law nearly got suckered into continuing with the deal at £xx a month because he forgot to phone up to cancel. in time.0

Did you have any luck OP? I'm thinking of signing up to sky plus (don't want HD or sport or anything though), but I seem to have missed various offers that have just recently expired.
I went on the sky chat with a rep thing yesterday, as I was wondering if I could still get installation free (I can't, that expired on 25th June). The guy was quite funny, basically saying, what are you waiting for, the sky plus box could go back up to £129 anytime, the offer must end soon. To which I said I seriously doubt that, seeing as how they're pushing HD now, and the sky plus box has been free since about feb with the right codes lol.0 -
I haven't rang them yet but I am going to try it tonight. Thanks for your tips guys. My biggest worry is about the installation as I have been with Virgin for 5 years but in that time I had a BT line installed to the house by my work although I left there 18 months ago. As such I don't know if I count as having a BT line attached to the house or if I will have to pay more.0

If your takeing their phone service they might throw in some free or half price line rental, but if you cant get dialling tone on your BT socket the chances are your have to pay a connection charge.
Sky Line Rental increases to £11 a month on 1/9/090 -
My sister just moved house and signed up again as a new customer. All she watches are stupid things like E, E4, Living etc and all the music channels. She got the HD package plus music for £27.50/month plus free phone line rental for a year and free installed (house didnt have a line), free HD box and installation. She went to one of the guys in the big malls where they have a Sky stand.
As somoene said above, if you dont ask you dont get

I just noticed this in their terms and conditions: Sky TV subscription and VAT changes: Packages currently £16.50-£46 a month. From 1/9/09 most prices will increase by up to £1.50 a month and from 1/1/10 by no more than a £1 a month due to VAT change. (HD Pack & Multiroom prices increase by 25p a month.)
Is this saying that their prices are going to go up twice over the next few months? I understand that the 2.5% will have to go back on when VAT goes back up, although I didn't think that was until March next year?0
