my partners contract with Sky has just ended so i've signed up today in my own name as she doesn't like dealing with them.

Got Sky+ for free including free installation & multiroom for £30 a month. Oh and all channels except for movies and sports, didn't even ask about them as they don't interest me.

Wouldn't say i got an amazing deal but it'll do!
This thread has me so pumped, I headbutted my dog and we both screamed.

May I as how you went about this? Did you just call up and haggle or what? I wouldn't mind free sky plus and installation, but I'll only take the basic TV package unless its very cheap. :D

I just told them I didn't have £30 to pay for the installation and they went off to speak to their manager, came back and said they'd do it for free.

Although I personally think it depends who you get on the phone and what mood they're in! my partner haggled them black and blue when she had it in her name and they never budged.

Only thing that's annoyed me a bit is I told them I wanted it installing on the 14th of August, so the first payment would come out at the same time as all my other bills (as first bill is due 14 days after installation), and they've emailed me today saying they've had to change it to the 31st july

Sky are making a big fuss at the moment that their current deals have been extended until the 23rd and will be ending then. What is the risk that they will offer an even better deal after that? Is it worth the risk?

I know, that's what I was thinking. They're making the free sky plus thing out to be a big limited offer, when in reality its been free for most of this year with the right coupon codes.
  • After being with Sky for 9 years,my Standard Box broke, and I did not want to pay£159 to upgrade to Sky+
On Sat 4th I phoned Sky at 22.30 and said I wanted to cancel....straight away I as offered a Standard box for £49+ £30 insallation...I refused and then I was offered a Sky+ box and installation for £29.00

They came on Tuesday 7th and all is fine.

Not bad for a 'lady' pensioner .!!!!

Please be aware that many of the low-price deals provide a so-called "refurbished" Digibox. In other words it's 2nd or 3rd hand and has been given a 5 minute check for obvious faults. I've seen many posts from people whose "refurbished" Digibox has failed within minutes of the installer leaving. These "refurbished" units often come in a tell-tale brown box.

I'm not too bothered by a refurb box, as long as it comes with a 12 month warranty??

Your statutory rights are not affected. But I read of one guy who got through several refurbs during the year (a day off work on each occasion plus several days without TV each time). It's the sheer inconvenience which upsets most TV addicts.

Meh, if it was cheap enough I could put up with it. Although wouldn't a refurb sky plus box be likely to not have various features that new ones have?
