Good idea about the dummy account, but also why not try and bid on another item with another id, ask to pay by cheque as you have no paypal account (or even offer to send cash recorded delivery!)and hey presto you have the sellers address,
then apply a little imagination. and don't send the payment(of course).0 -

I was away for a few weeks so couldn't come here to update my complaint with PayPal.
Here is the reply from PayPal:
"Unfortunately, PayPal was not able to resolve this dispute because the item
purchased was virtual or not physical. As a result, we have not taken any
action against either account at this time. However, this complaint has
been noted in the seller's record for future reference."
I read a few stories from this site that how helpless PayPal is, I have now experienced it myself!!
Just want to say 'thank you' to everyone here trying to help, I will be very careful with Ebay from now on...
This is a disgraceful end to a FRAUD, which ebay and paypal are responsible.
To say the item was virtual and not pysical, is PROOF of how spineless and toothless ebay and paypal really are.
paypal is effectively a bank, dealing with accounts that hold your money.
If a high st bank had acted like that, various organisation would have hit them for six.
Who's going to hit paypal ??If only everything in life was as reliable...AS ME !!

Yeah seems Ebay don't wanna involve themselves in any buyer problems. I purchased a mobile phone from ebay, seller had good feedback. I sent a personal cheque as requested, but hey, no mobile phone!
Contacted Ebay, whom seem to have done nothing to assist in resolving this dispute. So bye bye cash

It is sad, but as with buying anything privately its buyer beware. I always check the full details of the auction and the sellers feedback before bidding so i know what im buying. Ive only been stung with 1 bad purchase on ebay and that was when the seller lied about the condition of the item.
As with anything, if it sounds too good to be true then very often it is dodgy.0 -

It says in an earlier post in this thread that the wording for the item advertised offered a PS2 which once received you'd get the link.
Since when have PS2's been virtual or not physical?0 -

I am sure Soolin gave advice on this recently, maybe she could clarify it for us.
If the cheque was sent within the last few months, then you should still be able to get your bank to cancel it and draw the funds back.
Try them, you've nothing to lose.If only everything in life was as reliable...AS ME !!

In my case the buyer advised his bank that there was a problem with the way the cheque had been presented and they took his word for it and reversed it out.
However, my buyer was genuine, and had already told me that he was going to do this and he also made sure I was still paid. In this case he had a genuine reason for doing it, but I understand from the dedicated ebay newsgroups that others have had this happen to them fraudulently, but I don't know how, so I can't help with suggestions about how to recall this particular cheque.

Yeah I contacted the bank (HSBC), and explained the situation. Told them how I trusted the seller and didn't want to cancel the cheque, as I wasn't going to assume the seller to be a theif. The bank said there was nothing they could do, and cheques have a different insurance policy to credit cards.
Also, they informed me there would have been a charge of £7 if I'd cancelled the cheque :eek:0 -

If you are not too worried about repercussions, when you do post feedback if this is still possible, why not post the link you purchased as feedback for him.
That way, anyone else looking at his auctions will be able to get the link for free, and this is bound to damage his dubious business.0
