Alfa Romeo really that bad?

the new ones are meant to be better0

I had a ‘sud back in the early ‘80s which was a delightful car, probably the best handling car I’ve ever had in terms of driver involvement. It failed it’s first MOT on rust in the front chassis rails which were basically a box section which Alfa had decided should be filled with foam which soaked up water and held it like a sponge.
More recently my OH’s last two cars have been Alfas, a 145 and a gtv, both have been fine mechanically and whilst they may have lost some of the traditional Alfa character they are still way ahead of the boring “euro boxes” that seem to populate the roads these days although the paint/anti-corrosion finish on some of the non-visible parts is still behind the field.0 -

I herd the same that they had got better hence why I asked they do look great something that will a get me noticed by a certain someone, and b) leave am impression. My only concern is that it be ight imprssion not one that says unrelibable on first date LOL0 -
cant comment on how reliable they are , but ive worked at garages and had them stand around for months waiting for parts0

Alfas are brilliant cars to drive and to look at. The only reason I didn't buy one was the dealer who showed very little interest in any sort of customer service. I've also owned FIATs in the past which have been excellent apart from minor issues, but again customer service was terrible.LBM : March 2008

I've always wanted an Alfa, and I was that close to buying one a few years ago. My dad said "ooh don't get an alfa they always break down"
So I bought some solid german engineering instead, namely, an Audi A3 1.8T quattro. I've never driven so many courtesy cars, it was in the garage every month. Drive shaft, Turbo, misc knocking noises, the list was endless, sold it and lost 6k in 18 months. I've had another audi since - an A8 - which was better. I think that sometimes you get a friday car and that's it.
I say if you have an itch for an alfa, you need to get one, pronto, just give a darn good test drive first, as you should with any car you're looking at buying.0 -

ironic isn't it? i was in the same boat : i wanted an alfa but went for a car that was supposedly more reliable and have spent a fortune on it in repairs!0
