Italian card are brilliant. I had a Fiat Tempra 2l twin cam, completely faulteless, and no rust after over ten years, for comparison, I had a VW before that that the paint bubbled off everywhere, shocks needed replacing all round, drivers seat was like a bench, complete rubbish.
Alfa's are as good, and a pleasure to drive.

I would say most of the postings are based on the posters old predjudice, as most threads end up with the same comments about cars that were poor 30 years ago. Now they have all cleaned their act up.
I've never owned a bad Fiat, I've known people with Alfa's and driven them, they have been good. Buy Italian if you want a car that is a pleasure to drive, and they are as good as anything else. But that's just my experience recently.

My mate's recently been on holiday & I had his Alfa Romeo 159 to babysit (I'm a 2nd driver on his insurance, as he is on mine).

It's an 08 plate. Looks stunning from the front & rear, side-on it's a bit too angular for my liking. Anyhows. It drives fine, put the foot down & it goes like the clappers. But inside there's nothing special about it, quite a few peculiarities ... the window wipers are just odd, feel like they're slowly grinding the windscreen away they're that tight. Despite that they don't even clean the windscreen properly.

The electric windows are just plain unpredictable, sometimes they work, other times not. The boot catch release is on a little panel above your head ...... why ?, as are other controls you'd normally expect in front of you. The radio is naff, always loosing signal & going crackly. For me the seats are desperately uncomfortable, invariably got out the car with a sore back even on short journeys. The gears feel slack, cheap even, a bit hit & miss. Braking is excellent though, roadholding is fantastic, steering really good. Fuel economy was great too, much better than the car I own.

It's a right mixed bag. Not my cuppa tea but my mate adores it.

I had one, build quality was better than the VW i've got now, my son has had his for the past three years with no problems. Best bet is have a look at the alfaowner forum before you buy to get an idea of what to check for, if you do buy become a member of the alfaowner forum, good forum and very helpful members.
