Is that a general question to those in the know, or me specifically? If the latter, I haven't the slightest idea!

How about this one? You ring a geographical number, which is part of your free landline calls, it does not go through to a call centre or a computer; you do not have to start pressing buttons giving you options of '1' for a pants current account, '6' for a personal merchant banker or '8' for pension misselling... and wait for it...it is picked up by your local branch, because it is their number!!!

I wonder if it will catch on.

That's not actually how it works at all.

To help illustrate how it does work, you can click here (or a direct link here).

There is no button pressing. There is all of 30 seconds of computer, indeed the recording is only 43 seconds long - probably a bit longer since the call was made out of hours and it has to say about the branch being closed.

You can access this service through 0845 877 0057 or call a geographic number of 01542 779057 (both numbers are given on the business cards available to branches).

For any branch with more than two members of staff, this rings at least two telephones, to increase your chances of being answered.

do you have a behaviour score with barclays

You don't have a behavior score, no.

If you want to apply for a loan, overdraft, etc. some of these products will be pre-approved, and be visible to front line staff where they are.

applied to upgrade to premier life banking online, just got a pack in post with cd rom and a booklet...
when will i get my shiny black card, and will i definately get it???

online banking says its now a premier account!

It should take 5-7 days for the new card to come through, longer if you live in certain London areas, where it is sent out either by disguised post or by courier.

I'd ring telephone banking (08457 555555) and they will check for you. If not already sent out then the following applies:

If you already had a Visa Debit card with cheque guarantee limit, then you current card should be put down as being damaged and a new Premier card will be sent to you, with same PIN.

If you already have the Visa Electron, or Visa Debit card with no cheque guarantee limit then you will need to be pre-approved for a Premier card or go through a credit-scored application to see if you can have one.

sorry if am being daft here, but then can people with the basic cash card account with a visa electron card too can have the premier bank account with the £25 fee but with their electron card ? Or is it an absolute must to have a full current account to get the premier life ?
Also does running a cash card account execellently with barlclays help in upgrading to a full current account in the future or it all depends on the external credit score no matter what (some what like natwest).

You need a full current account to apply for Premier Life, or any of the fee-paying current accounts.

I don't think how well you run a Cash Card account has any bearing on a new application for a full current account, it's down to an external credit score.

the fee would be £25/mo. But on the face of it, that seems still incredibly good value?

    Worldwide multi-trip travel insurance
Phone and gadget cover (including loss)
    RAC comprehensive breakdown cover

    Any advice?

Change your bank, many others have premium accounts providing these services for less :A

If you pay the £25 fee you will only get a £100 cheque card not the £250 one they advertise comes with the package.

If however, the £250 CGC is important, you could save yourself £8 per month, and move to Lloyds Platinum Account, for £17 fee monthly, you get a fair few things, seems a bit mean to be paying top fees for a small Cheque Card limit though.

I have found the barclays premier life service to be great!

Having absolutley no credit history they gave me a 50 cheque g'tee, 150 reserve.

Customer service fantabulous (1 miss-hap) concierge have helped me locate someone and I hopefully should have their 13.9% credit card in 4 months time!!!

I reccomend you get this account. I found the major difference between this and horse bank to be the 1k 0% O/D* you get with barclays compared to horse banks 500 0% O/D* ok ok i think the montly intrest would be lower than the £25 charge but the features are brillo!

*subject to status and you having good teeth

Horse bank is also known as Lloyds Tsb
    - HSBC Premier - Mastercard £9,000 - Overdraft £6,000 - MBNA Platinum £3k (£2,500 @ 0% SPENT) - American Express Platinum £6,100 - Coutts Classic Card £5,000 - House Of Fraser Recognition Mastercard / Santander Cards £250 -

    - Bank Americard Limit $3100 - Citi Mastercard Limit $700 - WalMart Discover Card $2,500 Limit -

I highly doubt one could call it "Horse Bank" now, they seem to have taken this rather charming mare off my Debit Card, and replaced it for some kind of Olympic Symbol..............,bring back Black Beauty The Gazelle says, and fast!!
