We have now got two apologists for Barclays Bank encouraging posters to spend money unnecessarily.
This goes against the whole spirit of what this forum is all about and I, for one, find their posts to be disingenuous.RIP independent MSE.

If you pay the £25 fee you will only get a £100 cheque card not the £250 one they advertise comes with the package.0

Does anywhere actually still take cheques? I can't remember the last time I had to use my cheque guarantee card.0

My platinum banking card is £250, so don't see why Premier Life would be any different. But, as above, I also can't remember the last time I sent a cheque, so it's a bit moot.
As for Barclays 'apologists', I find that term quite unhelpful. One of the things I like about this forum is that there are numerous official and unofficial representatives from a whole host of different institutions. BarclaysManager was extremely prompt to answer a question I had about my account, in his own time, without so much as batting an eyelid.
Where else would you get that kind of support in a mass public forum? I'd hope people would be adult enough to make their own minds up about product recommendations. The fact that neither of them specifically said to 'do it' and one even suggested a cheaper product that covered the specific points I'd picked out to compliment the suggestion from others about sourcing directly just goes to support that.

Not really, but (and this is not directed at the LeeSouthEast) the perception of high cheque guarantees, black cards, etc. as being some how more prestigious etc. lives on.What would William Shatner do?0 -

I'm sorry, I don't work in Direct Channels, so couldn't have changed this for you.
But, by all means, please do complain - 020 7116 7488 is Retail Bank Customer Relations. The only way we ever get better is when you tell us.What would William Shatner do?0 -
Going a touch off-topic here, but do Barclays not give out branch phone numbers any more? Most complaints I see of late refer to being "stuck in queues", yet whenever I phone my local branch the phone gets answered within 5 rings and the query dealt with ??Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009.
