Jeans or No Jeans ?

I think it's a little unfair to say that jeans shouldn't be worn by anyone over a size 16
I think that jeans can be worn by any size, shape or age... as long as the wearer chooses the style appropriately! I'm no skinny minnie.. but I live in jeans, my mother (who's in her 60s) also wears jeans. They're comfortable, hard-wearing, usually inexpensive and can be paired with many different items of clothing.
Having said that, I wouldn't dream of wearing 'low rise' or 'skinny' jeans which exposed anything if I bent down! I know I'm not a suitable size for thatI also tend to wear longer length tops, just because that's what I feel comfortable in - It's all about wearing what flatters your body shape, or age for that matter

Totally agree with and relate to your post sugarspunsister. I live in jeans or cargo type trousers but I do have a proper black pair of trousers for going out inI'm a bit bigger than a size 16 and have to buy side elasticated jeans because non-elasticated gape at the back if I don't, and thats just wrong on any woman, young/old/fat/thin IMO. I also wear long tops to cover myself up, I hate to see young girls with all their wobbly bits hanging out. Whilst they may be a size or two smaller than me they look a damn sight worse than I do.

At what age to stop?
When you ask your OH "does my bum look big in these" and he hesitates before saying "no, of course not dear"0 -
My favourite casual outfit that I like to wear at weekends, is my Next bootleg jeans (nice and long in the leg to cover my boots), blue and white striped webbing belt with a pale blue Reebok hooded top over a white vest. I feel comfortable in them, they are the right size for me and they look reasonable IMO.
I did feel slightly uncomfortable however when visiting my sister, to see her 15 year old daughter wearing what to all intents and purposes, was the same outfit - the difference being that my niece's jeans were low slung and the top was cropped, therefore leaving a six inch gap between the two! She is slim, young and firm, and can get away with having that much midriff exposed.
The discomfort was around that old nutmeg 'mutton dressed as lamb' but it was a fleeting concern - jeans are timeless and classic. I'd like to think that I'll still feel comfortable in them when I'm in my 60's or even 70's, and I'll certainly still want to wear them because they've been an important part of my wardrobe for as long as I can remember.

Dora_the_Explorer wrote:I wonder if you've hit the nail on the head. Generally 60 and 70 year old female bodies are no longer firm (see Joan Collins). Snug fit jeans that we've worn from the age of 20 will follow the age related cobblestones of the 60/70 year old wearer. Not a particularly classy sight.
I've seen young women with bodies that are no longer firm, in fact some of them don't seem to have EVER had firm bodies!
Have seen wobbly tummies with stretch marks, pants showing from behind when wearer bends down. Have seen young women following the fashion for gaps in the middle when they really shouldn't!!!
Jeans and tops are not the problem so long as they fit and they cover the bits we'd prefer to keep hidden.
I will not be dictated to by anyone about what I wear/don't wear. I don't show off my tummy, but then I never did!! And if anyone thinks it looks odd me wearing a little bandanna scarf because of hair-loss, then they're the ones with a problem, not me. I've even been asked 'if I wear it for religious reasons'!!! (NB: it's this type of scarf, only I wear it further back because I've still got a fringe http://www.headcovers.com/moreinfo.php?id=654)

I believe if you are comfortable with what you wear then it doesn't matter what other people think. The only person I ever ask for advice whether something suits me or not is my hubby because he is the only person I trust to be 100% honest with me. Maybe people who laugh or point at others in the street because of what they are wearing need to get a life, if all they have time to do is do this to people then their lives aren't fulfilled enough and they have to do this to make themselves feel better. My most worn clothes are jeans, t-shirts and trainers. I know for sure I'm not the height of fashion but I'm comfortable with it and its who I am. When I go out though I wear a nice top, black trousers and proper shoes:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0

Why are all of these comments from women? Surely the advantage of getting older is that you can have the confidence to just be yourself finally. FGS - what does it matter at the end of the day - there's always someone who will run you down whatever you're wearing (and always has). If you can't do your own thing now when can you? Jump out of those boxes I say!0

Interesting point of view Phoebe, but of course all of us are only wearing jeans at any age because they're fashionable. The shops are full of them which they wouldn't be if they weren't fashionable.0
