What's up with Macs?

I see this through my work in market research as it often involves getting computer/laptop users together in focus groups. We always have to limit or reign in Mac users as they tend to overshadow the discussion points and talk too dismissively of Windows PCs to the point of pure smugness. Now I'm a Mac user myself, and think they're superior to Windows based machines, but I can't help but dislike the arrogance of fanatical users when a balanced discussion is trying to take place...
Note, the smugness goes up another notch when they own an iPhone too
As for the user-friendly argument - I find the conditioning most people have undergone from years of exposure to Windows products means the switch to a slightly different interface like OSX causes problems. The ease of adjustment and ability to pick up new processes is not the same amongst all so some people just stick with what they know. Same reason why lots of people only want to use Nokia phones..."Who throws a shoe, honestly?"

Very true. But even with the best openminded starting conditions I think it's still a lot of personal preference and user interfaces resonate better with different people. I mean the developers tend to make them to satisfy the most people but that can mean differrent things since there's no such thing as an average person.
Going back to the mac arrogance thing (and again I quite like macs even if they aren't my favourite hardware/OS) is when it always seems to be assumed that if you don't like or use a mac then you must be Bill Gate's pet. Personally (even excluding Macs) windows/MS based OS wasn't even the 2nd OS I'd started to regularly used."She is quite the oddball. Well, that's the problem you get trying to shoehorn everything the computer can do into one button.
Can't say I've ever encountered anyone using Windows who's ever really found it a hindrance, especially when anyone gets beyond basic point and click and stars to pick up keyboard shortcuts.0 -
i mean.. why click START, when you want to SHUT DOWN... ?!
Is that any less logical than having to move a CD icon to the trash bin to eject the disc?
You can always put a "shut down" button onto your taskbar if it really makes it easier to understand.0 -

Also the "Start" text hasn't appeared in Windows since Vista. When you're basing your examples on outdated years old versions is it really a relevant argument?"She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

.........that millions of people are still using because vista is so damn expensive!!
So your argument that it's relevant is because it's so popular in the first place? Isn't that self defeating on your part?
Vista's not really any more expensive than any other Windows upgrade. Yet people somehow managed to use XP at some point. Otherwise wouldn't all MS use presently be DOS?
My point was why argue about the why it's done this or that way when it no longer is."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

how loooooooong does it take for any windows upgrade to catch on? much longer than mac os ones.
though all these comments are irrelevant because some people like macs and some people like PCs and no one can change their minds!Kavanne

False dichotomy.
And of course people can change their minds except for fanboys but as I'd hoped from earlier we were going beyond mere fanboy thinking."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"
