Roughly work out the cost on tesco website, search every item they are saying you have had. Then you will know how much roughly it comes to.
I personally think the driver is dodgy

Normally I wouldn't, but I'm worried they will debit my stored card...they mentioned "Finest" bacon, ham and cakes....could amount to a hefty sum...can they just bill me without authorisation?
What proof do the store have that the delivery driver hasn't stolen the goods for himself? I presume they have checked that the crate is not sitting in the warehouse for delivery.

How does he know he left them with you and not at previous delivery?

Can he prove they were even packed onto his van in the first place?

Were they still on the van and delivered else where after he left you?

Too many variables for my liking.

I'll phone the store directly and ask, I hadn't thought of that.

If I was you I would suggest to Tesco that delivery drivers get customers to count and sign the number of bags delivered in future as there is obviously a serious weakness in their system if errors like this occur. The drivers should also have to sign for the number of bags/crates he loads onto his van.

Tell them it will protect their staff as much as their customers.

That's what I am wondering if the barcoded stickers are for, I wonder if they are supposed to be scanned on and off of the truck  Surely, if that is the case then the system would show it.

I'll ask the driver about that when he/she gets here.

It sounds like he's dropped off an extra crate to someone, can't remember who this was (he did do it in error after all) and has took a guess that it was you. It could even have been swiped out of the back of the van when his back was turned for all he knows.

Tell them it's clearly a mistake by their driver and that they should contact the police if they believe you have stolen something (this is exactly what they'd do with a shoplifter). Tell them you are quite happy to give the police your full co-operation.

If there is any doubt in the manager's mind about where that crate went, he/she won't get the police involved if there's a chance they'll end up looking stupid.

Phoned the store and they reckon that everything went out, nothing was left behind. The driver has apparently finished and gone home, so they cannot ask him about it until tomorrow.

They confirmed that they were asked to send someone around to collect mis-delivered items, but I told them that there was nothing to collect as far as I am concerned, so the manager helpfully agreed to not send him (turns out it would have been one of their shelf stacker's in a private car). I asked about barcode stickers, but he had no idea about them (the manager!).

So, I have no idea what to do now, I suppose I'll have to wait until they talk to the driver tomorrow.
