If anything has tomato in the sauce, it may, just may, have eaten into the tin lining of the can - check the can carefully visually for any signs of corrosion - ingesting tin is not a good idea ;)

If I remember my science lessons correctly, that should only happen if there is some break in the vacuum or some kind of dent in the tin, as corrosion needs oxygen to happen. Correct me if I am wrong!

There's a difference between corrosion and oxidisation (rust).......

Does anyone know what the 'best before' date is on the York Fitness 'weight gainer' powder tubs? My son wanted to buy some, he is a bit funny about the dates and it doesn't appear to say on the website.

I'm sure they would tell you if you contacted them but I would imagine if it was out of date they would say so.

I'm not sure about that. Most of the stuff is past its best before date and they tend to say if it is not, or if it is ages past it eg 2 years.

Yes I agree mcallister1, most of the items on the site are over or close to going over the Best Before date anyway. I was asking on behalf of my son who is more fussy than me, the date doesn't matter to me at all.
I have not had much luck with e-mailing AF and actually getting a reply so I thought I might get a response here from someone who had actually bought some of the 'weight gainer powder' and could just have a look for me.
On another note, we finally tried the 'chunky chicken' I made a pie with it and followed the instructions to the letter. (I left it a bit longer than the hour to soak because the chicken pieces still looked very dry and solid) I have to say I did not like it at all, although it tasted like chicken there was a 'stale' aftertaste which we all found unpleasant. Also I was wondering about the packaging, it is really just a paper bag which I would have thought was pretty porous. Sitting around in a cold damp place has probably not done it any favours, if plastic had been used I would think it would still have been 100% fine. I didnt pay much for it though so I was happy to just throw it away. :p
