I think all parents are guilty of making at least one mistake like this. The story was put on here to amuse not to cause rows. Save the anger for the scammers!!

This may be true. However, when you post on a public forum you have to accept the fact that everyone's opinion will not be the same or be inline with your method of thinking....that's what makes life interesting!

Couldn't agree more bargainbabe. Your view will depend on whether you're a seller who's been stung by all the sob stories and excuses out there in eBayland.....I'm certainly not criticising the original poster...but I can also identify with the opposite view.

Just shows what a diverse range of opinions there are on this board ( and all the better it is for it too! ).

I see a few people find the situastion hard to believe - but my 3 yr old did exactly the same a few weeks ago. He was playing nick junior games when a email came through to the outlook. When that happens it automaticlly brings up outlook. And trying to get his game back he managed to click on the new email which was a watched item ending email - he clicked on a picture, buy it now and commit. Resulting in a purchase for £38 car mats.
Its not hard for a 3 yr old. the button is there - he looks through his nick jr website looking for a button to pres to open the game.
The seller was fine and we agred to pay selling costs - although a buyer can get these fees back if he goes through the right channels in ebay - i felt it was only fair i paid something - my son after all.

You can't BIN an item even following a link unless you are signed in to ebay, and leaving yourself signed in with the automatic default not to request a password is the lowest form of security and is not a good idea.

YOu will find most people on the ebay boards moaning because they have to continually sign in every time they want to make a purchase, even when they were signed in to browse.

Also you are mistaken in that a seller can get all costs back, they can get the FVFs back if they go through the NPB dispute and either have a strike put on the buyers account or opt for a mutual which is dodgy. They cannot get their listing fees back, and for larger items they can be considerable.

As a seller and a mother myself I try to be sympathetic with buyers, but after you hear the same excuse over and over again you do start to get harder.

  • Hello all

Been browsing these forums for a while now and have just signed up proper. I thought it was quite a funny post from the original poster (i'm guessing thats what OP means!?) but have probably laughed even more at some of the responses. I'm not sure if you've heard my UK number 1 hit record but it features a line that some people might want to take on board...

You forget though that for some people ebay *Is* serious and for many the money from ebay makes a huge difference to the family budgets.

    BTW welcome to the board.

but yes it is funny,(and yes im an ebay seller aswell as buyer)just as well it wasnt anything more expensive

like many have said i would have just paid for it and said nothing to the seller tbh

lmao, do some of you sellers really have people mailing giving excuses like my child bid on xyz by mistake? :rotfl:

Yep, I've had several 'my child bid by accident', I've had someone blame their dog, and I had one bidder who claimed sarcastically that it must have been a ghost as he wasn't even home at the time.

Add to that the extremely rude US buyer who complained he never honoured bids made after he'd been drinking, and you can see why I no longer just let people off.

I realise that the percentage is small as I have over 2000 other positive transactions, but it is enough to make me cross.
