My near 3 year old son's first ebay purchase!!!!

  • The way that the seller worded the email sounds scarily like my (pathetic) ex ..and he had a volkswagon..spooky ! I think some people can under estimate the youngsters of today ...my 3 year old can work her way around a computer with no trouble ..she has brilliant mouse (and laptop pad) control. Although she would not be able to read "pay now" she would see it as standing out and click on it. I can see it could easily happen.at least it was not an actual Volkswagon!
I have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes ;)

I would've paid up the full amount too.....

At 3 yrs old my daughter could switch the comp on. put a disk in and start a game so it's not outside the realms of possibility that the little 'un can bid on something if he's seen his Mum or Dad do it in the past.
Just run, run and keep on running!

LOL This has happened to me too. My 3 yr old son was on cbeebies i nipped in to check on an item i'd been watching and was due to end. still had 10mins left on it so nipped back to kitchen when i came back in i'd won a totally different item a buy it now 400 bottles of nail polish?????
omg i might be a nail tech but 400 bottles of cheapo polish weren't what i was after!!!!!!
i contacted the seller straight away explained the situation and thankfully they saw the funny side and said they would think no more of it if i just paid the sellers fees.
i did and like yourself learned from my mistake.
this seller however sounds like abit of an awkward git ok so its his item thats being sold by mistake but for gods sake a measly 3 quid surley its not gonna be a massive thing to him to relist it and u just pay the fee???

anyway good on all of you who saw the funny side and the rest of you who didn't come on its not MURDER!!!!

hope to see you at nasa with my 3 yr old!!!!!
  • Babybimbles - your story made me laugh. Its easy to say in hindsight what you should have done but as you say thats life. When my son was 2 he rang the police! :)
my OH's cousin rang the police on his mum when he was 3 because she was singing lmao. they actually came to the house because he was in hysterics because she was singing while doing the dishes. Just goes to show.

  • my 3 and 4 year old kids are excellent on the pc. My son has been going on the pc since he was 2 and although he can't read he has this tendancy when something pops up or sticks out he will click. when I get these spam things on my pc saying blah blah blah pc infected click now he clicked!!!!!. Now i get these at least 100 times a day so I had to tell him not to click and he hasn't since. he plays on cartoon network website and the nick jr one. he does'nt go into my links though which is good. But i'm sure if he were to go into ebay one day and I was signed on surely those buttons are irresistable to little kids to press. so I will take your experience and never keep myself signed onto anything :D.

In My Wellies, do you sell on ebay? While yes the story was funny it is very frustrating as a seller to have to deal with this sort of thing. It is also time consuming. You would have to expect some sort of backlash amongst the sellers that experience this often by posting this here.

I think the backlash has occurred due to the negotiations about paying. If the buyer had just paid and not mentioned the circumstances to the seller or expected different treatment due to the circumstance then there would not have been so much tutting.

Most can see the funny side but there is also a very serious side which we all are now aware of.

I think all parents are guilty of making at least one mistake like this. The story was put on here to amuse not to cause rows. Save the anger for the scammers!!
