Advice needed - baby car seat questions (merged)

We didn't bother with a pushchair or travel system. Carseat, carrycot & babysling were passed to by my sister and later the cot & backpack carrier. We checked that the carseat was suitable for our car and bought replacement mattress for the cot & carrycot. This has suited us fine when DS was older we bought a hippychic. I've never felt the need for a pushchair as I & OH were more than happy to carry DS which worked in our favour in the end as DS had reflux and was unable to lie down until he was nearly a year.Fashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent

I've just got back from mothercare where i attempted to purchase a Maxi Cosi Rodi XR car seat for my son, however the member of staff dealing with me refused to sell it when i told her he was 2 1/2 years old.
Now i know guidlines for these seats state 3-12 years but my son is a much much taller/bigger than kids of the same age and is currently bursting out of his current seat where its a struggle now to fasten it (theres no chance once the weather get colder and hes got a thick coat on) i explained this to her but she still insisted that due to his age she couldnt sell me the seat..
Has anyone else experienced similar?TESCO EVERY LITTLE change to the t&cs HELPS0 -

To be fair i wouldnt put my child in just a seatbelt seat at that age, ours was 4.5 before we moved over to one.
Neck, bones and things are still developing and are quite weak thats why its safer in a strapped in seat.
What about a Britax Evolva 1-2-3 its a bit wider than standard seats and it grows with your child

I know it's probably not much help, but could you try a different Mothercare store? We had a similar problem last year with our daughter, she was the same age as your son but weighed over 15kg. We went to a large Mothercare store in Leeds and they let us buy a Britax Evolva 2/3 Isofit, which at the time was the top-rated car seat in this group (it's still a Which best buy now). We were told the Evolva 1-2-3 mentioned below wasn't suitable because the 5 point harness should only be used for children up to 15kg and over this weight it shouldn't be used (on the Britax site it also says the harness should only be used for up to 15kg).
You must take your son with you when you purchase a seat though, as they will need to check that the head support is in the correct position for your child. Our daughter was tall enough for the seat to protect her, 2 members of Mothercare staff thoroughly checked that it would be OK and they let us buy it. You could try another retailer, but I wouldn't recommend Halfords as they sold us a seat that wasn't suitable, fitted it incorrectly and we had to return it for a refund.0 -
If you read the Britax site it says you can use the harness up to 18kg
"Seat is used with a 5 point harness (from 9 to 18kg) and a lap and diagonal seat belt (from 15 to 36kg"0 -
Thanks for this, only place i could get it cheaper is kiddicare, carseat £59.95 and isofix £89.50, free del and 4% cashbback via quidco. However, that price only for pink maxicosi car seat. xx0

£170.00 for a car seat?!!!
Jeezo...depending on the size of your baby, they will be out of that and onto the second stage car seat by 6-9 months...unless you are planning on having a large brood (and can be sure they will all be the same sex!!!) that is a huge amount of money for a car seat.0 -
Depends how you think of it.
This is my third child and for each one I have had a new carseat and a base this will be the 1st isofix one though. I think they are worth the money.Money doesn't grow on trees,:j I wish it did!0
