I had a scenic and 3 children. I needed to use 2 stage 2 seats and a booster but couldnt get any to fit correctly in the middle. A phone call to renault and i was told no seat qould be ave in the middle as it was not designed wide enough. I did not feel comfortable me 3 yr old going without a seat and if he went in the front an adult could not sit in the back without sitting over the buckles of the other seat (big no no) so family outings in one car would be out of the question.
Now we have a 7 seater. Best move ever - and child seats fit in every seat!

My next door neighbour has 3 children (aged 6, 7 and 9). She has 3 booster seats in the back of her Astra.

She does not know the make, they are not the rigid plastic type, but the foam type?

I think I have seen (ge)hers in Wilkinsons or B&M for about £7.00 each.

My parents have a Scenic and its a nightmare for my sons booster seat, on any of the back seats! They seem to be shaped and his seat over hangs the seat on both sides so you need to scoot him about to get the buckle fastened and then scoot him back again. I dont like it and dont feel particularly comfortable with it but then hes not in their car often. But it completely put us off getting on when we were looking to buy our car.

I also have a Citroen Xsara Picasso and it is a much better shape inside than the Scenic, and you can get three booster seats in it (albeit with a bit of wiggling to get the seat belts done up). Much more boot space too than the Scenic which is essential with kids.

I know this has more than likely been done to death but I wanted to know what the best car seat is for a nearly 4 year old.

I have this one for her at the moment
    http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&langId=-1&catalogId=10151&productId=233065&categoryId=60959

BUT something in the back of my mind feels she is not safe in it, I dont like the seat belt going across her chest, I would prefer her to have a 5-Point Harness Car seat if there is one that exsists fer her age group.
I find carseats so confusing now!!

I have a new baby on the way and have bought the maxi cosi care seat with isofix base for extra safety, but really want my dd at the same leval of safety.
    Many thanks

I felt the same when ibought a new car seat for my DS(3). I would much rather have had the 5 point harness however i believe that the harness will only hold upto 18kg in weight if in an accident (told by a sales rep at mothercare) so i opted for the seat with the normal belt.

Adult seatbelts are perfectly safe otherwise we wouldn't use them ourselves. They just have to be at the right height for children which is where the chair comes in. I think it's just a case of getting used to them using the big belt and trying to relax. If you're a safe driver and you have a seat you know has never been in an accident there is really nothing more you can do.

Relax a bit. (Says worrier no 1 here!)

plus i think in the Which report this came out quite highly in a simulated car accident test thing, if that makes you feel any better.
