No matter what price we pay,we expect things to be at least intact. We could buy a top for 2 pounds from primark. How would you feel if you found it had a tear and Primark refused to refund you on the grounds that you should not expect an intact item of clothing for 2 quid?

i would not buy a bed (or sofa or wardrobe or indeed any furniture) from argos. Its all built for them and never lasts more than 5 minutes.

i have a king size solid oak and metal bed, absolutely gorgeous would probably survive a nuclear blast... £70 from ebay!

I bought a bed from Argos 15 years ago. It's still solid takes 4 people to lift it. I am assuming Argos quality has diminished?
Wow, I got 3 *, when did that happen :j:T:p
It is not illegal to open another persons mail unless you intend to commit fraud - this is frequently incorrectly posted:)
    I live in my head - I find it's safer there:p

I think the key thing here is that you bought a NEW bed for £160 and expected it NOT to be rubbish!

For a decent bed bought new, expect to pay over £200 for the frame alone, and perhaps another £200+ on the mattress.

I'd say you got what you paid for, and very much doubt you'll get a refund from Argos.

Ebay is a much better place to buy a bed.
We've just and splashed out £800.00 on a bed from Harveys. It really is important to try out a mattress for comfort and support before you buy one.
Was going to buy online but really glad we didn't.

No, I'm sure when you bought yours there were already people spouting garbage about Argos furniture..."this flatpack nonsense, it's not the same as the solid granite bedframe my grandfather carved out of granite with his bare hands!!"

Argos only sell the beds, they're not the manufacturers. You normally get what you pay for.

I'm not sure thats true! I don't think there is anything that says if you spend £160 and it breaks on night one that you can't get your money back! And it was just the frame(reduced from £220), i bought a £300 mattress as well from Silent night! I think i can safely say your post is not at all useful!

It sounds like the bed isn't of merchantable quality, so they should either exchange or refund. It isn't your fault that the bed was assembled before you noticed the cracks, so it's their problem that it is assembled. Ask them what you should do.

You can get good quality bedsteads for under £200, but not from Argos.

As a general rule the only bargains at Argos are reduced to clear, and anything else that appears cheap is usually cheap quality.

You will probably find that the mattress will also need replacing after a few months.

To be honest you could probably have bought far better for far less on line.

Trying a bed out in a shop only gives a very rough idea. You really need to sleep on a bed to really know if it is suitable.

I may have got the frame cheaper but I'm very happy with both the quality of the frame plus the mattress. You're right about having to sleep on it to know whether of not it's really suitable but at least I've now got a good idea of what it feels like. My Mum has bought beds before without trying them for comfort and it's felt like you're sleeping on a mortuary slab. If I'd bought on line and the mattress was awful, my husband would have probably blamed me but at least this way we both agreed how comfortable it felt. We tried out a couple that we're an awful lot more expensive and hated them.

That's why you buy from a seller with a satisfaction guarantee, and a good returns policy. There are some out there.

I appreciate that and I've bought many items on line and been very satisfied.
Just felt that I wanted to try out the mattress before we bought.
I'm happy with bed, mattress and the interest free deal.
