Bed bought from Argos

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what I can do in this situation? I've bought a double bed from Argos for £160 and basically its rubbish, it turned up yesterday and after 2 hours I managed to assemble it. However the bed is not well made and two of the pieces (the back and the side) have cracks in them. The bed seems solid enough but the cracks are a bit worrying. I would send off for new pieces but the rest of the wood is all glued in and i think it will be difficult to take apart to put new pieces in and if i dissemble it to send back to them with the glue its all going to crack really badly and will be just a big mess of scrap wood! What are my chances of contacting Argos telling them whats gone wrong and seeing if they will give me some of my money back? I resent paying £160 for it but if they gave me back say £50 I would put up with it. Anyone tried anything similar?

i would not buy a bed (or sofa or wardrobe or indeed any furniture) from argos. Its all built for them and never lasts more than 5 minutes.
i have a king size solid oak and metal bed, absolutely gorgeous would probably survive a nuclear blast... £70 from ebay!Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession:o

Ring Argos Direct, explain the fault and they should either pick it up & arrange a replacement they can pick it up and you ask for a refund, though I don't think they will give you a price deduction for the same bed.[DISCLAIMER: Any posts made by myself are my opinions and do not represent my employer]
God put me on Earth to acomplish a certain number of things.
Right now I am so far behind I will probably never be allowed to die!0 -

Cheers but the bed has about 40 pieces to it all glued together so if i dismantle it for them to collect it then basically its going to look like a complete mess of scrap wood. Are they going to accept that? I've bought loads of stuff of Argos and this is the first thing thats let me down! This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Doesn't really matter, call argos and see what they say. Could be that they will just want it stripped down to managable sized pieces.4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0

I think the key thing here is that you bought a NEW bed for £160 and expected it NOT to be rubbish!
For a decent bed bought new, expect to pay over £200 for the frame alone, and perhaps another £200+ on the mattress.
I'd say you got what you paid for, and very much doubt you'll get a refund from Argos.
Ebay is a much better place to buy a bed.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
The cracks are probably because the wood hasn't been seasoned properly. ie mass produced.0

I'm not sure thats true! I don't think there is anything that says if you spend £160 and it breaks on night one that you can't get your money back! And it was just the frame(reduced from £220), i bought a £300 mattress as well from Silent night! I think i can safely say your post is not at all useful! This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Argos usually sell beds including the mattress.
You stated you bought a double bed (not a double bed frame).
2 + 2 = 4
I'm not psychic, and my post was perfectly useful given you didn't explain yourself clearly, so no need to be rude.
If it was £160 for just the frame, then that's a different matter.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')

Well if you read the original message you would see that the problem was with the bed frame, hence whether a matress was included or not wasn't the issue and has no relevance for the problem. Plus even if i did pay £160 for both a bed frame and matress that would be no real business of yours! I posted a message asking advice for a problem with my argos bed frame and you've offered nothing at all constructive and just been judgemental and now slightly patronising! To be honest people like you make me sick! This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Bought my gf a double bed from argos around 3 or 4 years ago now. She's slept on it all that time, we recently moved, reassembled the bed and now we both sleep on it every night - it still looks as it did the day we bought the thing...No complaints at all.0
