Bought a new laptop at Easter for her even though nearly the end of her course. New phone sounds a good idea, but she's lost several!!!!minerva_windsong wrote: »So far I've had money from my grandma and one of my uncles (all of which is being used to fund my holiday to Istanbul in September), but nothing from my parents. If I had utterly free rein though I'd love a netbook or a new phone, but both of those are quite expensive and my parents spent a *lot* of money on me for my 21st last year, so I'm really not expecting to get anything big.
We are going out for dinner after my graduation though so I'm happy for that to be my present.
Meal booked too. x0 -
Bah. Most parents have made sacrifices in some way or another to fund their children through uni so if anything it should be the parents being bought gifts not the other way around.
I was just glad to have them there on the day. A uni tie and lunch was aquired somewhere along the way to mark the occation. But I would have not liked a big present. But then again I am not a material person.0 -

DD loves travelling though, so money is always acceptable although sometimes it is forced on her as she can be fiecely independent but I really want to buy a keepsake.0 -
Perhaps you could get her a necklace - something which she could keep forever.0

I really like this idea. Or a bracelet? Earrings? Maybe something a bit special that she could wear to her graduation ball (then just bring out for special occasions?) Perhaps put a personal note in the box?
Or a beautiful photo frame for her graduation photos / certificate?
Graduation day is special. Money, gadgets, meals, experiences etc come and go and get forgotten. Something small and significant could be cherished forever.
...Dreaming.... "Your grandma gave me this on my graduation day".....

DD has effectively had 3 graduations....lol....BSc, GDL and LPC...as she loves silver we bought her a bracelet, necklace and a ball pen all from Tiffany's...all come in lovely little boxes with gift tags....not too expensive either....we spent too much on her education....lolI'm now a retired teacher... hooray ...:j
Those who can do, those who can't, come to me for lessons:cool:0 -
I've been shopping again today. Bought a white gold and diamond ring (not as expensive as it sounds) and money for travelling if she can't get a job.
Thanks everyone.0 -
The best present was having my Mom and Brother present at my MA graduation
I was taken out for a lovely meal afterwards and that was a nice gesture but I didn't expect anything. I saw it more as an opportunity to gift myself if that makes any sense.
My Mom's sister lives in the state and she sent me a lovely card with some USD travellers cheques included which was really sweet but again unexpected.
Shall be going through it all again in 3yrs time for my BA so hope they are all still as excited second time round
