SOA advice please!!

I really don't know what to do, i am only getting 9 hours a week in work, and it will not be put up at all. I am looking for another job, but no one is really looking for anyone just for the summer, as i am going to university in September.
I don't get my student loan in the summer, and i really don't know what to do without it!!

If anyone has any other ideas of what i can do to sort things out it would be great.

Do you live at home and pay rent to your parents? If so, I would suggest you see if they would reduce it to a (much) smaller payment. It's 75% of your wages at the moment, which is really not practical.

Keep looking for work too, don't give up, it's hard at the moment but there are jobs out there still. Are there any jobs going at your uni, eg helpers at open days, etc? (Or are you home for summer and nowhere near uni?)

I haven't started uni yet, so i don't know. i've just left college and am going straight into 3rd year at uni.
Yes i live with my mum, i can't give her any less that £150 a month, as she is in much worse debt that me and needs the extra cash

Hi hun, good luck for the job hunting.

I don't want to sound the voice of doom but it looks like gettings some more work is the only way that you can nail this. Have you signed up with temping agencies etc? It might mean that you get a few days here and there that tie you over. Do you have things that you can sell on ebay?

Those interest rates are hideous and if you can just get a few days temping here and there you should be able to make some serious dents. I know though that now is a tough time though so I really wish you all the best, get signed up and see what you can get.

  • thanks, what are temping agencies though?
  • Hiya,

I used to do a lot of work for temp agencies during my summer hols. It really helped me through. I did a week in an office at one place, then a hospital, then a coupla weeks at a call centre. One year I did full time for the whole 8weeks of summer in a warehouse through a temp agency. Made loadsa mates!

Not sure how much similar kind of work is available nowadays with the credit crunch and all but it is certainly worth asking.

You might want to try, Spring Personnel, Reed, Office Angels etc etc.
Or just take a walk down your local high street. Chances are if they are local to you they will prob have local work to you.

Just take a form of ID in and a well-written CV and they give you a call each time they have a job come up. The more things you're willing to try the more chance you'll have at earning money. You can say no if you don't like the sound of a particular job but obviously the more reliable you are the more work you will probably get offered.

Also sometimes its good to find out what companies use agency staff and see if you can by pass the agency in future and get a summer job directly with the company. Agencies tend to pay good wages but behind the scenes are probably keeping £1.50 per hour that you work, for themselves as their fee.

Just Google 'Glasgow Recruitment Agencies' I'm sure you will find loads!

    Good luck!

Littlepinkstars, have you tried mystery shopping? Fees vary but tend to be about £5 a job. If you could do two a week then that would just about make up your monthly shortfall. It's all dependant on if there are jobs available in your area, but you're in a city so should be able to find some. There's a good mystery shopping thread on the up your income board.

I'm sorry but with your income, your rent is too high, and your spending on your mobile is ridiculous. Renegotiate both.

Littlepinkstars has said unfortunately her rent is non negotiable, as her mum's financial situation is worse than her own.

Mobile i'd agree with, OP have you tried asking if you can move down to a cheaper plan?
