Split Stomach Muscles In Pregnancy?

Hello,
I have been suffering some discomfort around my belly button for the last few days and have just been to see my midwife today and said the pain is caused by my stomach muscles splitting/separating? Does anyone else suffer with this and what would you suggest to relieve the pain?
Any advice would be gratefully received because this is rather uncomfortable!
Thanks
Mad

Hi Mad
From what I remember I was told that was is a normal part and parcel of the various aches and pains we end up suffering in pregnancy.
I recall feeling uncomfortable in my first pregnancy but I've a feeling it was fairly shortlived so hopefully will be the same for you.
Re pain reliever - all I can think of is perhaps one of those cushions that you heat up to see if that allieviates it a bit.
Sorry not much help - hopefully someone will be along soon with some more advice for you

I didn't have them in pregnancy but did have it after giving birth.
The midwife said it was a really good example as they had spilt all the way down, she wanted to show all the students!!!
However having said that it didn't hurt at all so very different to what you are suffering. The midwife did give me some exercise to do but this was all post delivery.
I would ask the midwife if there are any exercises you can do during pregnancy
Hope it eases soonGive me the boy until he's seven and i'll give you the man.0 -
