We had M-P round a couple of weeks ago. They told us they were working through the council and we were required 'by law' to let them survey the insulation and that if we failed to comply our council tax would double as we would be classed as a higher CO2 emitting household. I refused to let them in. They were very pushy and claimed they were only in the area that day so it was let them in there and then or pay twice as much. Obviously a load of bull****!
The worrying thing is the area I live in there are quite a lot of families on very low income that may have believed this knowing there was no way they could afford to have their bill double.0 -

Absolutely agree with everything keystone says.0

I did ring the council. They didn't seem bothered at all!0

Complain to your Councillor - some of them are less 'jobsworth' than LA employees, and as Keystone said, try Trading Standards as well.
No complaint with MP myself (see earlier posts), but sounds like the lot you had were cowboys. When I had mine done, initial approach/questionaire was from Kirklees council, then MP turned up and did the job.
Mind you, I've had a few door-knockers and calls since trying to flog me what's already been done - could be they're not really MP..?0 -
Trading Standards are separate from the council. I'd also contact the Energy Saving Trust as MP will be on their list of approved suppliers and they should know about such shoddy practices.0

Has anyone in the area of Swanley, Kent used Miller Pattison for cavity wall insulation.
I would appreciate your comments as am expecting them to do this work soon.0 -
Just had a "Surveyor" cold calling today, said he was from Miller Pattison letting people know that they may not realise they are eligible for a grant towards the cost of having the correct depth of loft insulation in their properties, he took a look at both of our loft spaces (we have an extended property which has 2 access spaces), told us we didnt have the correct amount/depth of loft insulation and that they could re-do the whole loft areas with a sort of wool type one and we would only just have to pay £199 at the end of the job, our energy supplier would be paying the rest of it. I don't like cold callers and usually say no thank you but told him I did not want to sign anything until I had chance to check out his company, he then went on to say that they would only be in this area for today and that he actually works for Primus UK, so which is it Miller Pattison or Primus?? He did mention that there is a 7 day cooling off period but I still wanted to check it out before comitting to anything as I'd not heard anything about the energy suppliers having to pay a grant for this work to be done, I take it that everyone is entitled to this no matter what age they are or their financial circumstances? I am in my late 40s and work full time, my huband is just slightly older and runs his own business and both our sons are at college. Another is that if we did decide to go ahead with this it would be a lot of work to clear out both the loft spaces as we have a lot of "stuff" stored away up there, we'd probably have to take a day or two off work just to do that part ourselves.0

Yes, everyone is eligible for these discounts.
Do an online energy saving assessment on the energy saving trust website - they will email you a report with details of how you can reduce your energy consumption. On the report will be your local EST contact number. Ring them and they will pass your details on to recommended suppliers in your area.
Someone will come out and do a survey of your home, provide a quote for the work. No obligation. If you want to go ahead, then arrange a convenient time for them to install the insulation.0
