Anyone used Miller Pattison

Had an unsolicited visit from someone trying to give us cavity wall insulation for free
Being naturally distrustful of free offers at the door (npower, Sky etc), we declined. But checked the company (Miller Pattison) out on the internet and they have been trading a while. Just wondered if anyone has used them - and what the cost was? We intend to get quotes from 3 companies anyway if it looks worthwhile.
I know over 70s and people on benefit may qualify - but this guy said it was free for everyone!

Depends where you are - my council (Kirklees) is currently doing free insulation upgrades for anyone and are using Miller Pattison as installers. The 'someone' who visited should have said who they were representing, but worth a look on your council's web site (the Kirklees one is called Warm Zone).0

I did see the Kirklees info and tried our council who denied all knowledge of any scheme.0

You could check out the Miller Pattison site contacts http://www.miller-pattison.co.uk/Branch_Network.aspx - looks like the only midlands scheme is around Stoke/North Staffs. They might be able to give you a clue as to who could be promoting them (possibly power company?).0

We've just signed up for them so I'll let you know. With the government & local council grants, it should cost us £89.0

The grant is paid for by the energy providers (Scottish Power, British Gas etc). The Government are forcing them to pay for this as far too much money is being spent, and wasted, on energy each year. Now, every homeowner in the UK qualifies for the grant, it's the house which may not. The 'norm' goes like this, if you over 70 and/or claiming benefits (and are the homeowner) you get it for free (wall cavities and loft, both of which come with a 25 year guaruntee). If you are under 70 or you are not claiming any benefits then you get an 80% + grant for the work to be carried out by Miller Pattison. Although, in certain areas the grant is 100% regardless of circumstance (still got to be the homeowner though).
You dont pay for anything until the work has been done AND YOU ARE SATISFIED WITH THE WORK! No bank details or deposit are taken until the work has been done either. So, all of you people who don't trust people like me, who work my fingers to the bone, trying to give people FREE home insulation, and save you 30%-40% each month on your bills, please start having a little faith and realise that not everyone in the world is out there to mug you off.
Thanks for your time, and next time one of us knock on your door, hear us out!0 -

As Miller Pattison are the only company to carry out the work on this scheme, any other company will be considerably more expensive. Let me put it this way. A 4 bedroom house, receiving an 80% grant for wall cavity insulation, will cost on average, £149 (to clarify, that's 80% paid for by the energy provider, 20% by the homeowner). This price doesn't vary too much, if at all, from house to house. In a nutshell...the bigger the area being insulated, the more it's going to cost as more time/materials are being used.0 -
I attempted to get my Cavity Wall insulation completed through our Council's scheme (Wakefield) and their partner 'Go Warm' sent us Miller Pattison to do the work. The cost was £99 as a private house owner with no rebate for being on benefits.
I say do the work - they were so disorganised I'm surprised they ever get anything done. From beginning to end it was so painful and I was almost doing all aspects of their organising for them. Short of doing the work for them there was very little else I could have done. In the end even Go-Warm gave up with them & got another contractor in who did the job as it should have been done with minimal of fuss and promptly.
IHaveNoOriginalName - you are having a big giggle old bean0 -
They did our loft (South Northants Council} as a grant with us paying £249 towards it.
Was about what I'd pay for materials giv or take - so better than me gutting up there to do it.
They did it with a bit of delay - van trouble or just an excuse.
Lads worked ok, though.

I had Miller Pattison do my loft insulation and cavity wall insulation. Got it free as I get child tax credits!
Have to say they did a really good job of both. The walls were brilliant and as I'm a single parent my kindly next door neighbour checked their workmanship too! He was very impressed and said they were much better than the firm who he had paid to do his and had had to get back twice! You can hardly see where they filled the holes back up in the walls and on the front facing walls which are rendered and painted I just gave them the tub of paint which had been used to do the original paintwork and they made them good. Thought I might have to go over the whole wall again but no need as it looks great!
As far as the loft goes they were again really good. They even moved some stuff for me which had been too heavy for me and they also said that some of the previous insulation hadn't left a margin at the eaves so they sorted this out.
I would have been happy to pay for the work they did so I would say go ahead.
