Thanks for your time, and next time one of us knock on your door, hear us out!
a. made an appointment instead of cold-calling at the door.
b. explained clearly what it was all about.
c. didn't describe himself as a "surveyor".
d. had a leaflet and business card to give the householder (flashing a plastic ID card is meaningless if you've never heard of the company).
e. didn't drag things out when I said I was extremely busy.
f. didn't insist on phoning to get a booking number ON MY PHONE, calling them at least 7 or 8 times because he claimed they were busy. At this point I was convinced this was the classic premium phone number scam. When I told him to stop and do it later he ignored me and carried on.
And you wonder why householders get suspicious?
I'm copying this to Miller Pattison and to my local council.0 -
I'm copying this to Miller Pattison and to my local council.
But I had a letter from them, without a signature or name, and without even a company address at the top -- astonishing arrogance! I'd told their rep that a. it's not possible for me to empty the loft of all the boxes of books I have stored there, and b. it would not be convenient for them to come before October at the earliest. Their letter tells me a. "Items... should be removed by the customer", and b. their appointment is September 3rd.
I'm not dealing with this company, who clearly don't give a damn. I'm going to cancel.0 -
I've emailed a formal complaint to Miller Pattison twice, quoting this forum. They haven't bothered even acknowledging receipt.

MP dropped a leaflet through out door. So I called and explained that I wasn't eligible for free installation as detailed on their leaflet but wanted to know about the level of grant available. The lady responded that as I wasn't receiving any of the listed benefits I wasn't eligible for free installation -
"ummm, that's what I just said!"
"Ok so what level of grant might I get, you know like a percentage?"
"Can't tell you that."
"Why not?"
"Well the funding comes from the energy companies and they don't tell us how much - you'll have to contact them."
"So you can't tell me what I need to know."
" Yes I have done."
" Err No - you've not given me any information about costs."
"Yes I have."
" Err, you' re arguing with me."
"No I'm not!"
"Can I speak to your manager please?"
"No"
....and on it goes. Who's the customer?? Not me!!:rotfl:0 -
We just cancelled an order with these clowns due to the salesperson being extremely pushy, chasing us up (ringing OH at work etc), turning up at house unannounced etc. Put us off using them full stop.0

I have worked for Miller Pattison for 7 years, they are one of the largest if not the largest insulation group in the country, they are owend by SIG plc they dont tend to advertise as they get most of their work from the utility companys, this is why some people have not heard of them. As far as i am aware miller pattison DO NOT cold call or at least they never used to. The grants are available and for most people the work is free to the customer, depends where you live and what your means are. All MPL employees carry ID. and will have a coppy of the survey when they call to do the work.0

Sorry pphandyman Millers have canvasing teams all over the country. Nothing wrong with that - I've developed award winning projects that have worked on this principle. Canvassing is good for mopping up those people who mean to get something done but never quite get round to it. It used to make up about 30% of our marketing.
Personally I rarely buy at the door unless it's locally made crafty stuff or ocassionaly betterware cos I feel sorry for the guy that brings it round. BUT it does suit some people and made a significant difference to the CO2 savings for my projects.
Millers are the same as most other companies - on the whole good but with the odd rogue employee who makes mistakes. No-one's perfect.Target of wind & watertight by Sept 20110 -
Like others have mentioned, Miller Pattison are in with some government scheme. For us it was through the Energy Savings Trust (Scottish Govt scheme?).
Cold-called at first, to do a questionnaire. All seemed ok. Surveyor then visited to assess for loft insulation and cavity wall.
I'm in Kirklees and like others in the thread the work is free. I've done the intrusive (in my opinion) questionaire and now they want to send a surveyor to carry out a survey and assess my insulation requirements. Surely they already know from that I have cavity wall insulation. The loft is fully boarded with loads of stuff stored up there so surely it's not possible to top up the insulation unless they fill the eaves. Surveyor or salesman?0 -

I think you'll find that the intrusive questionnaire is designed by Kirklees Council not Miller Pattison and it's designed to collate information about fuel poverty and CO2 savings. You'll probaby have been asked to indicate income so they can work out if the house you live in could cause you to live in fuel poverty (fuel bills more than 10% of your income). You don't have to complete the questionnaire if you feel it's intrusive.
Many, many councils in the country are carrying out similar services because it's so difficult to find individual homes/customers that are in fuel poverty. It has the added bonus of reducing CO2 emissions and fuel bills too even if you're not in fuel poverty. Miller Pattison, like many other insulation companies are just doing the bidding of the local authorities in order to earn a crust.Target of wind & watertight by Sept 20110 -
I have just with Miller Pattison for cavity wall insulation for £149.99 which i think is a very good price. my question is ..i know that they use Rock wool but how does that compare to the new microbeads used by some companies? a company using microbeads quoted me £420 to do the same house!!! is it worthed?0
