Got a quote from Miller and Pattison for the insulation of my 40sq M loft: £199. They argued that I would have had to pay around £600 without the grant scheme. Sounds like a good price to me but would like to have a third party opinion.
From what I read here I feel quite confident this is a professional company.
Thanks in advance for your feedback.

I had someone from these guys knock on the door last night saying that they could save us money as could get a grant- I am always sceptical about door knockers and in reality whether we could get a grant (under 60 and don't receive any benefits other than usual child benefits that everyone with kids gets).
So I didn't take them up on the offer.0 -
Miller Pattison did my Cavity Wall insulation and I would recommend them. My neighbours have also used them without any problems. I contacted the Warrington Office.0

Some lucky folk seem to have had a good experience. My insulation was organised througfh the Scottish Gas several years ago and cost £200. It was M-P who were contracted. They twice failed to turn up- or rather, at the wrong time, costing me half a shift.
Then, a few weeks ago, I had a quote for new double glazing. A professional firm sent round a fully qualified surveyor who by chance asked to check on the existing sills and wall condition. When he removed one internal sill we did not find the expected cavity insulation but rather huge empty gaps between the walls, with only sporadic patches of insulation in the cavity. The same was found when we removed a sill from another window in a differtent wall
I contacted M-P head office who told me there was no record of any work at my address on their system, although I have a signed certificate from their local office. It can take a while between the work being done locally and the central register being updated, I was told. Four years?
The local office then made an appointment to come out and inspect the work. Have they kept the appointment - what do you think?
I'm sure there are some good local branches; I am just unlucky? I await another phone call from head office.0 -
I used Miller-Pattinson only this week. Like yourself I had an unarranged visit from someone just before xmas. They said I needed my loft insulation topped up and could get cavity wall insulation too. The cost would be £149 for cavity walls and £199 for loft insulation. I have had both done and would highly recommend the company. The guys who came were great. I live in Dumfries and they came from Sunderland to do my work. I would have no problem using them again if needed.
Hope this helps.

Finally cancelled the dynamic Miller Pattison after four months of frustration. Wouldnt trust this lot to empty a dustbin !0

We have also had an offer of cavity wall insulation for £99 which I initaily thought couldn't be legit at all. But after finding this thread it looks like it might be ok.
One other question I have is that our house was built in 2002, so my understanding is that it will have been built with insulation (don't know how I can check without knocking a wall down :rotfl: ) Is adding additional insulation even for just £99 going to make any difference?0 -
Like others have mentioned, Miller Pattison are in with some government scheme. For us it was through the Energy Savings Trust (Scottish Govt scheme?).
Cold-called at first, to do a questionnaire. All seemed ok. Surveyor then visited to assess for loft insulation and cavity wall. A bit disorganised to get appointments, but all seemed fine. We noticed them doing quite a few properties in the area.
I cannot fault the loft insulation installers. Polite, quiet workers, unobtrusive and cleared up after themselves. Great.
However, we are absolutely devastated after a visit from their cavity wall insulation guys. The appointment was changed twice. Dodgy story the first time, then a confession they'd messed up the diary the second time. (Personally, I prefer honesty, everyone makes mistakes).
But they left our house full of dust, inside and out. There was no extraction equipment used. They drilled SEVEN holes in the wall inside our porch. Nobody had warned us they would be in the porch and the installers didn't warn of the mess. I can't tell you how upset we were to see what they did.
And a vent had to be put in the living-room wall as we have a gas fire. Again, enormous amounts of dust coating everything in the room. Did he have any dust sheets? Well, I would laugh if I could. He had one small dust sheet, which he used to sit on as he drilled the wall!!!!!
My partner came home from work and we both spent the next four hours cleaning up. And it's still not finished. Thank goodness we are reasonably fit. I dread to think what would have happened if, say, this had been our elderly neighbours' house. There is no way they could have dealt with that mess without help.
It is a total disgrace that any tradespeople should make such a mess in someone's house and leave it like this.
As I said earlier, the loft insulation team was excellent, so maybe we have some rogue elements here. But I absolutely recommend you never consider Miller Pattison for cavity wall insulation.0 -
I had them fit loft insulation, but they also insulated all the tanks etc and even fitted a seal around the loft hatch.
It took two men all day. They did a very professional job and left no mess.0
