  • Hi,

I've just read through most of your diary.
I'm in a very similar situation to what you were in and would like some advice.
I lost my job around 2 months ago and have large debts mainly from gambling.
I have been to my local citizens advice office and they are currently dealing with my case but this seems to be taking forever as there are lots of people in my situation they are trying to help.
Do you know of any quicker way for me?
also what happens once the bankruptcy goes through? Do you still have to pay more money afterwards? I don't have any assets and would much prefer to go bankrupt before getting a new job as I may be told I can't go bankrupt then but I really think it is the best option for me but I want to do it asap as job seekers allowance isn't enough for me to live on.
One last thing is i am still gambling, if I do go bankrupt do I need to stop this completely?
any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

Ring National Debtline and go through your options with them.

If you have enough surpus income after all your monthly outgoings have been agreed then you will have to pay a percentage of that to the OR, though if on benefits you won't.

  • Thanks Tigerfeet,
I have already filled in all the debt forms with Citizens advice, would you still advise me to call the debtline?
also do you know what kind of percentage it would be I'd need to pay the OR?
    Thanks

Hello there, Tigerfeets advice is spot on. As far as gambling goes you need to stop. The OR asked me if I stopped and I had so I told her so, this may affect any bro/bru you may get.

Do you need help stopping? I can give you some links of websites that will help. Also don't panic I remember the blind panic I was in before I went BR. Get the advice you need and come back with any more questions.

Things will get better but you really need to stop gambling to make it happen

All the best, and PM me if you need any more help.

  • Hi Amiga,

Well done on your victory to being debt free. i have to say your story is very inspiring and really has motivated me to apply for bankruptcy. I have been thinking about doing it for so long but couldnt take the steps to do it but having read ya diary it makes me feel strong and able to fight this. I cant live in the misery of debt anymore.

    thank you!!
