I was just going through some of my listings in a halfhearted attempt to see what I am not selling anything and I came across something I hadn't seen before.

On large books there are a few sellers who have added to their item description that they require an additional payment to cover postage, I found one saying a further £4.50 is needed and a different one asking for £6 for special delivery in addition to Amazon costs. How do they think they are going to get away with that when Amazon process the payments automatically? I'm hoping that even though mine are a pound or so dearer on the listings that buyers will see mine is the better deal as I have no extras to pay, has anyone else seen that?

  • Soo - did you notice if these were experienced sellers? I haven't seen this before.

Yes they were experienced as the two I recall in particular had hundreds of feedback.

  • I know this has been discussed somewhere but I just can't find it! :(

Unexpectedly I'm going to be away for the next week or so and I want to suspend my listings. Could some kind and knowledgeable person please tell me how to do it?

    Many thanks :)

    and I wouldn't have refunded either. :)

Sorry but the buyer is entitled to a full refund on return of the item. Amazon rules state that the buyer can return any item for any reason for a full refund and this conforms with the Distance Selling Regulations.

You cannot refuse the buyer a refund.

Also, listing a region 3 DVD under a region 2 Amazon listing is also a breach of Amazons rules and if the buyer makes an A-z claim against a seller then Amazon will refund the buyer and take the money from the sellers account and the buyer doesnt even have to return the DVD.

Go to Your Seller Account, then under the Your Seller Account sub-section, you'll see 'enable vacation settings' or similar. Click on that.

And thanks for doing it....as a buyer, I recently had an email some days after the sale was confirmed, to say that I'd have to wait another 10 days as they were away (originally promised in 2 days).
  • Thanks for that Wendym - you're a star!! I've just been to do it!

I notice that the suspension takes 36 hours to come into effect so just for once I'm hoping I don't sell anything 'cos I won't be around to sort it out!!

Mind you, I'm going through a 'fallow' patch with Amazon at the moment so I should be alright.........mind you it would also be just s*d's law for me to sell something in the next 36 hours!!

Where does it state this for the market place? All I can see is if the buyer feels that is wrong, misdescribed etc, then they need to wait 30 days before making a claim whereby Amazon investigate.

I also don't think that individuals are tied to the Distance selling regulations. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I do agree though that, the product should match the description as they do only like products they know.

Individuals are not subject to the distance selling regulations, this has been made apparent on ebay where such claims have failed. I assume that Amazon work on the same principal in that the sale and purchase are between private individuals, just like buying from Loot or your local free paper from your neighbour.

My husband is the main Amazon seller.....it took me ages late one night to find the vacation setting, after he'd gone away for a few days, telling me everything was listed alphabetically. This actually meant a CD could be filed under the artist, the composer, the conductor, the orchestra..............sometimes by surname, sometimes not!

We're having a patchy time with Amazon at the moment.
