I'm setting up a spreadsheet to keep track of m profits(hopefully!) for my amazon selling.

I have the following formula to work out the amazon fees. Could someone take a look and check it ?

    =(Selling price*0.175)+0.49+.086

    0.49 is postage admin
    0.86 is amazon item fee

    thanks

    :hello:Hi everyone,

Mind if I join you? :) I've got quite a few books I want to sell (and I know they won't sell on Ebay - not for more than a few pennies anyway) and I've finally decided to try selling on Amazon.

I'm a bit unsure of what to expect, but just wanted to say a big thank-you to Apprentice Tycoon for the brilliant first post and to everyone else as well for a great thread. :T

I will probably start posting lots of annoying questions soon so please bear with me! :o First question: how on earth do I come up with a sensible seller name?
  • Hi Dormouse, feel free to ask any questions you like, there are lots of regulars around to answer them.
A sensible seller name? does it have to be sensible? I think so long as it's not drillerkiller or anything like that it will be fine, you could either base it around the word 'book' but most of the names with book in tend to be the big dealers or you could go for a snappy/ jokey name or alliteration. Or Dormouse.

I had a nice surprise yesterday. I posted on here some time ago that I had bought a biography about one of the Popes for 50p from the market. The seller said he could not sell biographys and I thought well 50p its worth a try.

When I got home, there was one copy on there for £34.95, so I put mine in at £34.00. I was actually thinking about this book yesterday when I drove home and thinking why do none of my high priced books ever go. You know what I am going to say next of course. When I logged on, there it was Sold Dispatch now - my popey book. It was a big bruiser of a book and cost £5.59 to post, however I made at least £24.00 profit on a 50p book.

Now AT or anyone, I did not send it recorded delivery and it was after that I wondered - do you do that when the book price exceeds £30.00 or is it the amount you actually get paid eg in my case £29.53 before postage???

It seems that people say there are often more probs with recorded and registered stuff going missing.

Good luck, Dormouse. Once you sell your first book you'll be totally addicted!:rotfl:

I don't think the seller's name makes any real difference. I suppose you might sound more professional if you avoid calling yourself after a disney character or something?!

The main thing is being competitive on price - just bear in mind the postage costs or you could end up making a loss on some books! :o If you've already read A_T's beginners' guide, then you're off to a fine start.

    Best wishes! :)
  • I personally would say that if it does go missing then you wouldn't be covered at all but then again Recorded wouldn't have covered you either you would have had to send Special Delivery.

  • Larmy - great sale! it was divine intervention ....I'd have gone with standard parcels, it would have taken a day longer but you can pay £1.00 for cover up to £100 which would have more than covered the cost of the book and the actual postage cost would have been a little less (I'm guessing at the weight as around 1.5 kilos) but I wouldn't worry, this book is being looked after by someone up there....
