as new when one has 100% BRAND NEW. Has minor shelf wear

Well done. I get a real thrill out of hearing the success stories on here.

    Thank you

I had a quiet Easter too and I deliberately put everything on marketplace thinking I'll make lots of sales when people are off work! I couldn't have been been more wrong. I've suddenly got busy now with 'sold despatch now' emails. DS thinks the house will be stripped out when he gets home. I've got 100 things listed but that's all I can spare so when that's all gone, my mini empire will cease.

There are a few examples of this kind of listing, I think that NEW should only be used for a book that looks like it's just left the manufacturer rather than a book that's unread but been around a while.

I know that in a high street book shop you will see books for sale that look as if they've been scuffed up a little but when you can see it in your hand you can make an informed decision about the condition, you may decide that it's OK to buy it like that but when you don't get to see the book at all you have to make a guess as to how much shelf wear is minor. I'd be a bit cautious about describing a book with shelf wear as 'like new' as well, this is also a tricky one, because in Amazons definition they say 'suitable for a gift' so I'd just go for 'very good' for shelf wear.

I wish there was a category between 'good' and 'acceptable' though.

I bought a batch of books from auction a few months back that were ex shop books seized by the courts. I had several books, but only three or 4 titles and although they were all brand new straight out of a box they were dusty as though they had been in a stock room for too long. I ended up listing them as 'used' but with the condition 'like new' and explaining the situation.

I bought 8 books from a car boot sale on Sunday for mainly 10p or 20p. I listed them on Sunday night and one hour later I had sold one!! Then I sold another one last night. Made about £3 profit on each book. Wish I had bought more was a bit cautious as wasnt sure which books would sell. However _ i think I will be visiting a few more boot sales this summer!

I also bought 5 cross stitch kits for £6 (the lady had more buta gain I was over cautious) I listed them on ebay on Sunday night. By Monday morning I had bids of £2.75 on two of them so well chuffed!!

Just wanted to share my good news.

Nice result! btw I've had good sales with cross stitch kits too - especially the big ones that are made in Anglesey, the name of the maker will come to me soon...Elizabeth???? - I've sold those for £20 -£30 one was partially completed though.

Edit - the maker is Elizabeth Bradley, I've just had a quick look on ebay and the one I sold which was partially done was a Victorian Pug dog, there's a finished one in Completed that sold for £120.
