Sneaking out of lurkerdom to say the declutter sounds a great idea. I have a sort of rolling declutter going as I live in a tiny flat (I've even got rid of some books!!!) and live away from home during the week so twice the opportunity to hoard rubbish. Inspired me to have another look around both places though as I know there's some unused stuff around and clothes that I will (hopefully) never wear again.
Also thanks for mentioning the free scratchcards regularly inspired me to have a go and I'm doing well so far and anyway every little helps.0 -
Hi vixstar! Even if you only "declutter" a few bits, or one area of the house/flat/room, it is still going to make a difference!
A couple of years ago, we had a discussion on here about feng shui and how clearing the house helps with our energy flow, but as we could never agree on where our money corner was or which bit of the room we should put our waste paper bin, it sort of passed us by a bitPerhaps this is where we are all going wrong, our waste paper bin is actually in our money corner
Anyway, the point I was coming to is that any amount of decluttering has to be good for mind body and soul....so whether it is letting go of one thing, or 100 things, it is all good stuff!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. pickle - when talking to my wise friend yesterday, I reckoned that I could probably make £200 from the unwanted stuff in my house and garage etc max - and the cost of a skip is, say, £100.....so by NOT doing car boots, and NOT ebaying, it will "cost" me £300.
BUT, not everything will sell at a car boot - in fact most of it has already been to at least one, and come back home again unsold, so even if I go to a car boot, I will STILL have to get a skip in!
The majority of stuff in my garage relates to Dad's house - but it is all just "stuff" - bits of crockery, old bits of computer equipment......no real value - just the emotional stuff. And even then, I have already sorted and retrieved the stuff that means something to me, so what is left really is just "stuff".
So, for a "cost" of £300, I should be able to clear out the house and the garage, and achieve a huge amount of wellbeing, emotionally and physically......
Small price to pay, I reckon (before anyone reminds me that £300 is 6 squares I could colour in!).
Yeah, sometimes it's just an 'is it worth the effort and energy' thing. I must admit, I'm Ebaying things as I have some things just too good to give/throw away, and I could do with the cash (couldn't we all?!), but I'll give anything else away to a charity shop. And if you could get £200 from a car boot sale, you evidently have more valuable clutter than I do! :rotfl:Please call me 'Pickle'

I have "decluttered" my airing cupboard so much that there is almost nothing left
The utility room is showing significant progress too - the "recycling area" has been sorted and cleaned, and the cupboard under the sink now only contains things that we actually use....
Considering that I was planning a lazy day with my laptop, I am quite impressed with myself so far!!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
Hi guys! :j
Just been catching up after spending the past week and a half in Cornwall! Amazing place! Had lots of family issues and lots of drinking and lots of walking in my absence so it's almost like usual!
Sounds like everyone is having a laff! My de-cluttering this week is going to be sold on E-Bay. Basically it's clothes and tshirts and I'm going to sell 'mystery bags' of jeans and tees for like £10 or something!
Might work!:beer: Debt Free since July 2011 and it feels good!
Now it's all about finding a deposit for a house!
How do you amass £70k in a year?! :eek:0 -
Ooh, I could do "lucky dips" or "mystery bags" too......some lucky person could be the proud owner of:
One bag (recycled of course) of:- an adapter for something that it'll fit
- a charger that probably won't go with the same thing
- a bottle of something that was obviously siphoned from a bigger bottle of something else
- an odd shoe
- with an odd glove
- an unusual shade of nail varnish that has gone hard
- with a complementary (or not) lipstick circa 1987
:rotfl:

The other thing that I have discovered, and it seems to be a contradiction in terms, is a huge number of "re-usable bags".....you know, the cotton square bags that you get given at a county show, or other event, which have an awful marketing logo for "5 a day" or some firm of accountants, and which I am, presumably, expected to use every day instead of a carrier bag.......except the logos on are not exactly what I want to be seen with, so I end up more "reusable" bags than I will ever "reuse"
So, something that is supposed to be saving the planet, is going to end up in the bin......not the idea, I am sure!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
Swap it for some old walkman headphones that have been stood on, an old BT phonecard, a video recorder user manual, and a Croydon bus timetable from 1998 ?DC.
