I was wondering how you'd got on with your day of planning yesterday.
I really enjoy reading your diary and am in awe of the energy that you have to work on being debt free. I know that there are lots of ups and downs - but I want to say this - for all those that criticise you - there are so many of us who really do respect you for what you have done, how you have done it and where you will be when you are debt free.
I look forward to reading the next chapter!

Too many of my children's peers have everything handed to them on a plate - having generous allowances, saying that it is not worth doing a paper round on a Sunday "for only a fiver" etc- "only a fiver" - for 45 mins work? That is not a bad rate!! It takes two days solid to earn "only a fiver" on slicethepie :rotfl:
Or my friends who say "I'm not selling it on ebay for that little - I'd rather give it away".......
I can understand "I can't be bothered to list" or "I can't fit in the time for a car boot sale" or "I'd like to give it to charity rather than donate cash" or whatever....but.......to say "it is worth more than I would get, so I won't bother".....don't get that one!
I was one of those kids (with the generous allowance) I think and my parents think it's really off to talk about money but that's why it's taken me this long to get things sorted out! Determined DS will grow up with his head screwed on - my mum is the sort of person who buys ready packaged mashed potato...:D
or the other classic after you explain quidco - "couldn't be bothered with that", what opening one site before clicking on another??? how much hassle can that be?:rotfl::rotfl:Mortgage OP 2025 £6000/7000Mortgage OP 2024 £7700/7000

Chapter 8 is upon us.......I know it is not that long since I started chapter 7.......but I feel as though I have been a bit in "no man's land" over the last couple of months.....and over the last few days I have started to feel a bit more aware of how I need and want things to be.
So....the story so far is thus.
Bought a house, it fell down, tried to sue surveyor but we had to pay for rebuild, couldn't borrow on the mortgage because it was falling down so now in negative equity, borrowed on cards and loans to do the work, felt depressed, sold the house but didn't cover the debt, rented for a year, bought another house that hasn't fallen down, robbed Peter to pay Paul for many years in the meantime, never making progress. Debt on top of mortgage = £100k.
Dad died suddenly, giving me major kick up the backside, life's too short, blah, blah, blah, walked away from work, went self employed, somehow managed to pay everything, rented spare room to foreign students, discovered MSE, had bigger kick up the backside, started focusing, bought stardrops and microfibre cloths, tried flylady but failed once or twice, entered challenges, learnt matched betting, went mad playing free bingo glglglgl lucky lemons, learnt that a snowball is more than a handful of frozen water, and started to make progress.
Went one step forwards, two back but stuck with the great people of DFW and now go one back and two forward.....most of the time. Battles with Egg, Barclays, bank charges, travel insurance claims (didn't pay out after my bags got pinched ) all helping to keep me occupied in my ample spare time  Went back to work, with a salary, payslip and everything!
Stockbroker, 38, stressed and very tired, married to a hardworking OH for 19 years, who works all the hours available, but still has yet to find out that you can get a balance of the bank account from the cash machine, and that there is no need to ring me to ask "which account shall I pay for petrol on" every time, with two sports mad teenagers, who happen to be quite good at one of the most expensive sports on earth, useless at housework but have got rid of the sock pile and reclaimed dining room from the ironing.....longing for the day a cleaner fits into the budget, still doing bits and pieces of self employed stuff, and ran the London Marathon in April.....training in my ample spare time
Debt now £26.5k....aiming for debt free by Easter, 7 diary chapters completed, still putting soda crystals in washing powder to make it go further, mystery shopping in lunch-hours, and my £20 that I took out of the bank the Friday before last still hasn't been used up entirely.
Think that sums up the last few years :rotfl:
Anyway....... As I mentioned above, I feel as though I have been a bit in "no man's land" over the last couple of months....but things have become a little clearer in my mind recently....so the next post will go into that in a bit more detail for anyone who is remotely interested!!!

You really are an inspiration Hypno. Reading this new thread had me feeling quite emotional on how far you and your family have come. I have no doubt you will achieve your goals its just that refocus you needed for the next big push to the end of the year. Once that comes you'll be home and dry.

I'm still getting over some of the members poo pooing your idea that your children should grow up balanced by realising the cost of things but also building the life skills by seeing different places and cultures.
Hell you've done more than enough over the past year I've been on here to warrant that.
Also I love the new focus of having included holidays and things! It makes it so much nicer to see life returning to normal somewhat!
Even the sock pile is returning to near monstrous levels! :rotfl::beer: Debt Free since July 2011 and it feels good!
Now it's all about finding a deposit for a house!
How do you amass £70k in a year?! :eek:0
