Those mortgage overpayments seem do'able H given the amount of debt repayments which you currently make. My mortgage lets me overpay 10% of the outstanding balance each year, so I have plenty of scope to reduce it before the fixed rate comes to an end in 4 years. By that point, I would hope to have the mortgage well under control, and to have moved house, or at least be close to moving.
The worst would be that we stay where we are, and have a rapidly reducing mortgage - so that is not bad as "plan B" really!
And £1000 should be doable without huge stress, as you say, when I compare it to the amounts we have been finding up to now. I would like to either pay off more, or save more for emergencies/deposit/fees for moving, on top of that.
But of course, first I have the barclayloan to tackle......so some effort needed there!
