On a side note, I love it when this board has a bit of a 'who's the most frugal' competition.

    Erm...

I only drink water from the office. In addition to that, I sell water outside the office on hot days to passers by for 10p a cup and put all the money received in a low-income defensive bond. At the end of the year there is normally enough money for me to fix the holes in my shoes and it saves me buying another pair.

My Dad didn't die in the war so that mobile-phone selling t*ssers in wideneck ties and stupid cufflinks could spend two hours worth of wages on a poncey coffee they don't need. Oh no.

    Etc.

:rotfl::rotfl: It's something I do notice on here.

I do Flasks of coffee but purely as a personal protest to Corp coffee shops, I make sandwiches and wrap them in foil, but only because I travel to places that don't have a Pret handy (I know they are part owned by Mac'D's) ..it can be different further North I know.:o

When I go into London every week, I confess, I slip down to an indie place in Soho for a macrobiotic salad plate...and a chat...he's been there 30 years. I used to eat there as a student.

Beyond that, I cannot possible confess........too embarrassing.

I had a temp job where you had to buy coffee (not poncey stuff) from a machine at 40p a go ... at 3-4/day that was a lot of wonga. So I went into Asda and picked up a £2 flask and a jar of coffee for £1.60. I drink it black without sugar so just made up a flask of hot water and took a screw-job plastic cup of coffee, containing a spoon.

Ideal .... then an email went out that staff weren't allowed to bring in flasks due to H&S. Somebody had seen me supping my coffee!!

Good job it was a temp job, with that Mill Owner on the Hill attitude I'd have been walking pretty soon.

    :)

I get supermarket own brand coffee granules. I can't tell the difference between those and Nescafe. As for coffee, I never have it after a meal when it's offered because I always found it so strong it was vile and took away the taste of the lovely meal I'd just had. So not keen on ever trying poncy coffee. Cheapo granules FTW.

Case in point as I said in another thread on here, eventually it's all done to death and runs out of steam. The coffee shop steam is running out, simple as. And still not been in one.
I came in to this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

I can be the first, and admit to liking poncy cups of coffee. They are a treat though, not something for every day. Especially when you look at the calories in a caramel macchiato

Coffee Republic was one of the smaller chains and didn't have anything to it that would make it stand out. All the coffee shops and the lunch shops (pret and etc) were starting to compete for the same market, selling sandwiches and snacks.

The ones that will survive are the ones with the strong brand names or those that adjust themselves to the market.

    :naughty:

Are you for real?! Not only is your taste bolloxed but so is your smell! You can tell a decent coffee just from the smell of it and anything less than Nescafe does not even smell remotely like coffee. It's just some !!!!!! they've swept up off the floor and chucked in half a dozen real granules to make you think it's coffee.

I could have maybe forgiven you if you took it with milk as that can disguise it, but you take it black like me so it's quite clear you've never actually had real coffee if you can't tell the difference.

I don't really like those things that don't taste real. Fwiw when I'm in Italy I buy umpteen coffees a day: there are no public loos and coffee bars exist partly to allow people to use the loo. Espresso is under a euro and quick and good: few calories, no milk and a good pep up.

DH likes the most grotesque coffee I've ever tasted at one particular coffee shop- in Italy. Its an espresso topped with sort of foamy cream, which is cold. I tried it once: tastes like phlegm to me.

I like real coffee and I am ashamed to say I'm running on it ATM, if I stopped the caffeine the body would grind to a halt. I do not find coffee out in the chain bars at least, a relaxing or enhancing experience. I'd resort to it if I were tired or droopy though: but nothing flavoured or with cream than you very much. :o

These coffee places are where the unwaged white-collar ex-Finance, ex-IT, ex-Retail peeps gather to use the free wi-fi to login to JobServe, LinkedIn, etc. etc. and 'network' with others made redundant.

Spending 10% of that weeks JSA on a cappo and a muffin isn't too clever...

Surely they could just go to Mac D's for that....free wifi there too! :rotfl:
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.
