Coffee Republic goes into administration

Poncy cups of coffe at £4 a pop?
It's a f*cking joke. And an indication of how pretentious and unsustainable our society and economy has become.
A boom-time business dependent on boom-time incomes.
I'll be glad to see the back of them and their ilk.
Better latte than never I suppose.
Ahh, c'mon, it's just a cup of coffee. If you're out and about, and you fancy one, have one. People do worse things than buying poncey coffees. Like raping grandmothers, for example.
I've thanked you for the latte comment though. Nice.0 -

One for the after dinner circuit there.0 -
Never bought a poncy coffee in my life and at £4 a shot I never will, same goes for subway and their ilk.Poncy cups of coffe at £4 a pop?

As you say it's a fkng joke. I came in to this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left. :rolleyes:0 -

I'd rather go without.
There's a Costa below our office and I pop down if the man from IT comes to do anything with our computers. He makes me want to lose the will to live. Other than that I drink the office tea in a free mug I got from our local curry house. Very MSE.0 -
Makes me laugh the people walking round with the big cups like a fashion thing, same as the chavs with macdonalds shakes. (never had one of them either) The old woman made me smile on Steve Wright said she'd never tasted coke.I came in to this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left. :rolleyes:0

On a side note, I love it when this board has a bit of a 'who's the most frugal' competition.
Erm...
I only drink water from the office. In addition to that, I sell water outside the office on hot days to passers by for 10p a cup and put all the money received in a low-income defensive bond. At the end of the year there is normally enough money for me to fix the holes in my shoes and it saves me buying another pair.
My Dad didn't die in the war so that mobile-phone selling t*ssers in wideneck ties and stupid cufflinks could spend two hours worth of wages on a poncey coffee they don't need. Oh no.

I don't buy tomato ketchup anymore, I just steal sachets from fast food restauranhts and fill up the one bottle I bought in 1984 again and again and again. You wouldn't catch me buying large bottles of ketchup, like those poncey, media types in London.0 -
I win! I don't buy coffee at work because
A. I don't work
B. I don't like coffee!
Cleaver...I save up the free ketchups, sugar and milk and take them away with me on holidays, visits to my parents caravans etc.
My son went into our newly opened Coffee Republic (opened about a month or so ago!) and asked how much their Oreo (or however you spell the blooming things) is...he walked away in shock when told it was £3.50.We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
Funny that I do the same with Mayonnaise, have you seen the price of it??I don't buy tomato ketchup anymore, I just steal sachets from fast food restauranhts and fill up the one bottle I bought in 1984 again and again and again. Hmph, this sounds like a false bankruptcy to me... run away from debts, renage on leases that are unprofitable. Open up three days latter, after getting rid of any incompetant staff...
I have, to my deep shame, bought poncy coffee but only where double toffee-choco double death muffins are available. Mmm. Muffins.
The one thing on this board that amazes me is the acceptance of 'Doh, this ones gone bust...grab a bargain in the shutdown'' when there's a pheonix at work.
Coffee shops (like 'phone shops, anything formerly Icelandic funded plus any chains that relied on Bangladeshi/Chinese labour rates to manufacture their products) pushed up rents to silly levels..creating a very unlevel playing field.
Oooops, now those rents are looking a little bit highish...so, admin, renegotiate those pesky leases and 'Voila', a profitable business.
Also, the coffee chains competed with each other on prime sites, property gurus lapped it up (as proved ever rising values and demand) and the fall-out from that behaviour has affected many areas.
At last, it's all beginning to unravel...I felt like The Mad Person when this was all going on over the past few years.......people would look at me and think ''Oh, poor dear, it's progress, she can't keep up''.0
