  • I am loving this thread - especially for the summer holidays ideas, having read through I have started my list of wet/dry day activities & also printed off two free calendar pages (1 for july & 1 for august) and started filling them in so I have a quick reference for days out etc

that's a good idea jelly bean (using the calendar pages)
Not up to much today, got some stuff on the family tree from my gran. Need to email my step-uncle for his mum and dad's address to get anything from their side of the fmaily. Am gathering up as much info as possible before doing like a month with ancestry.co.uk (unless anyone has any other recommendations) and then I can blitz through it all in one month rather than bits and bobs here and there.

Anyone here done a family tree before?

98jdougl - been delving into mine for the past 8 years. Struck lucky on one website and found a relative who'd got stacks of info her dad had collected before he died, then managed to locate relative in America who Mum had long lost touch with.
Sad thing is, there's no-one around now to ask about things. Lucky I had Mum for a while to fill in a few gaps and I wish I got interested in it earlier. Fascinating it is. Good luck:j
I would be unstoppable if only I could get started !

I have done our family tree with my Dad and cousin. Best thing to look for are any certificates as they can tell you a lot, marriage ones would tell you the name of the father of each person, birth would give you the mother and father, they also have adresses and usually their jobs. Good idea to get it all together and do ancestry in one hit as you said as it can be expensive. If you want any more help let me know xx

thanks, that's what I thought about certificates.
Have got up to my great grandfather on my dad's paternal side and my gran (dad's mum) is doing her side now which she says can go further back than that.
Am trying to get a hold of my step grandparents' address so that I can try for their side as I know very little about them.
