I need some ideas please
I have decided to make my 9 year old niece a baking hamper for Christmas. I got the idea a while ago but wasn't sure if she would like it and also whether she would get the opportunity to use it. Well, today I was shopping with her and we saw some baking things. I sneakily asked a few subtle questions and it turns out she loves baking at school but hasn't got any equipment at home so can't bake at home. Perfect!
So, I was hoping someone could give me some ideas for things to include in her baking hamper.
I have already decided to get some shaped cookie cutters, rolling pin, wooden spoon and a child's recipe book. Not sure what else, any ideas?Making money for Christmas 2012!0 -

A nice spatula thingy is always very useful, or a whisk, and maybe a small mixing bowl - could double up as a baking pot for puddings and so on - I mean a glazed china one obviously not a metal one! And a pinny so she's not floury all over. And maybe a favourite easy-ish recipe of your own - like biccies or cake - you could doll it up on a nice print-out and laminate it if you've got the technology. My friend made baking bags for my 2 smalls a while ago and they were a huge hit with them!
I'm making these this year
I'm hoping my nephew isn't too disappointed but when he goes to play at my Mums for the day he always cooks with her and enjoys it
I'm going to add a teatowel to encourage them to wash and dry up afterwards and one of those box cake mixes as well
found these gorgeous little spring cake tins child size soooooooooooooo cute0 -
Just to let you know Lidls had luxury xmas puds in (Andover) for under 3.00 and lots of German style Christmas biscuits, stollen and chocolate santas.
I've got lists and boxes full of wrapped presents and bits of food. Have made Christmas cakes too
I've got to go to Lidls.
Have decided to make xmas cakes this yr, more a destresser, got my 1st open uni exam, 20th Oct, (my 1st exam in 21 yrs!!!), the ngt b4 off to see a Agatha Christie Play, then think xmas cakes day after! xxxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -

Def agree re these suggestions, the only thing I found with kids cookbooks there a bit hit and miss, without sounding cheeky, grab some kids recipies, print them out, add a couple of pics or little decoration and put them an a A4 file.
You could put the childs name on the front, decorate it a bit and they've got there own personal recipies, there be over the moon with that.
DD nearly 7, we saw a bright kids cookbook in Marks + Spencers it was £5.00 but only had about 12 recipies.
Can't remember how old the girl is, - but method in my madness,
go to cbeebies website, look up Big Cook, Little Cook, and you can print off the recipies they used in the show.
The print offs are really good, any cover every aspect of cooking, snacks, sweets, drinks, hot food, biscuits and everything. You could get a set of dividers and then put the printed lists accordingly.

Hi mum2one, Ooh yes, making Christmas cakes will be a great destresser ;-) I wasn't going to do one this year but my dd (11) is pestering me to let her do one and I will probably give in lol.
Good Luck with your OU exam on the 20th! I know how you feel - I'm an OU student too. (Which course are you doing? I'm just about to start EA300 Children's Literature.):)
