    Hi all,

I'm most confused. Most people on this thread are paying around the £400 mark for an annual water bill. Ours has just come in at £1291.57. We have a water meter fitted. My husband and I live in a 2 bedroom ground floor flat. We both work full time and have no children. Neither of us take baths, only showers. We do have a dishwasher which goes on every 3 days or so and also a washing we use twice or 3 times a week. We have no outdoor water supply as there are communal gardens.
Why oh why are we paying SO much more than everyone else it seems?? We are on the Anglian Water 'SoLow' rate and our payments per month have been put up to £108.00. This is on par with our council tax!
Does anyone else pay this much??? Or does anyone know what we could do about it? Seems ludicrous.

    Thanks

    Abs

If you use more than 75cu a year then SoLow is the wrong tariff for you to be on, give them a ring asap and be put on the standard tariff , this is probably why you are paying so much

    Welcome to the forum.

    Several pieces of information required.

    1. Where do you live? (water charges vary tremendously across the country)

    2. Do you have a meter? If so what is your consumption in cubic metres?

    3. If no meter - what is your Rateable value?

    4. Is that 12 monthly payments of £62 in a year?

It is highly unlikely that you would be having a bill for £804 a year - even in the South West.

    5. Have you arrears from a previous period?
  • Here is our water bill (Dwr Cymru/Welsh Water)

    1 April 2010 to 31 March 2011
    466.31

    1 April 2011 to 31 March 2012
    487.06

    1 April 2012 to 31 March 2013
    512.45

Un-metered supply, do you think we would be better off with a meter?
Theres only 2 adults living here, no baths, no hosepipe etc

Look at their website and assume you are going to use 110 cubic metres a year - this is the average consumption for a couple, but many use less.

Add up the standing charges for water and sewerage plus 110 cubic metres of water and sewerage and it comes to £412 for 2012/13.

Every cubic metre less than 110 cubic metres will save you £2.91

In the unlikely event that your charges were higher, you can revert to your present charging system within 12 months.

You have nothing to lose and will probably save £100+ a year.
  • Hi Cardew, thanks for the post!

We decided to go for a water meter.

I have sent a letter to dwr cymru, basically asking will I be liable to pay £512.45 after a meter is fitted. I am assuming (and hoping) that they will calculate the un-metered supply up to date of meter install, which will be substantially lower than £512.45.

    Seems fair really.

I am a bit new here and perhaps a bit slow on the uptake. I recently discovered what you all already know that you can have a rebate if you have a soakaway. I recently claimed this rebate from southern water via an online form. They have contacted me and told me I qualify and they will rebate this years bill and all future bills. My question is should they refund all past charges for the last 22 years that I have lived here and if so what is the best way to claim.

No, you could have applied for the rebate at any time and the onus is on the customer so I am afraid you only get the year of application and nothing more.

Soakaway info has been on the back of bills for ages so there is nothing more you can do.
