  • For sheer convenience and a reasonable price without commission the Post Office is very good. I have also bought from Marks & Spencer but the nearest one is 18 miles whereas the post office is 75yds!

You can order Marks & Spencer currency online...if you order over £500 worth it's free postage I think! I think they have one of the best exchange rates.

Good point, but I wouldn't dream of carrying £500 cash anywhere. That is far too much to lose in a robbery or burglary. I never carry more than I can afford to lose.

  • Yes very true... I would put all my euros in a safety deposit box in the hotel where I was staying so as not to have all that money on me in one go. Though that eats into the £5 I would have saved on postage!

I am going to see my hubby ( he is inthe US Mil) as soon as i get out from teaching the last day of term. Just wondering if anyone knows of the best place for me to change my pounds into dollars, as i did this through my bank last time and the exchange rate was not that good.

Best place is an ATM in the US, after that follow the much repeated advice in the following

Or just go straight to here:http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=201733 Also do watch US ATMs as some do charge to use them and others do not (I think you are told in advance that you will get charged though).

I always use this website for currency conversion:

Not sure how much help it will be to you but it's proved very useful for me. :)
