today i got a problem with my xbox 360. two red lights appeared and then it turned off. this was while playing gow2. today is the first time this has ever happened. according to the booklet it is due to over heating and i should just leave it to cool down for a while. however i had only been playing it for 10 minutes when it happened. i left it for 30 minutes and tried it again. the two red lights appeared again within a couple of minutes. i have decided to leave it for a few hours before trying it again.
is there anything i can or should do to help it?
what if it continually keeps doing it and i can never manage to play a game as a result? am i covered by the three red lights protection even though it is only two red lights appearing?
i bought it instore at my local hmv in december 2007.
it is one of the 175w models and i thought these models were supposed to not have the red light problems like the older models.

We were just talking about the lack of cooling available on the xbox lastnight here: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=23027645&postcount=7 perhaps you could consider grabbing a bag of peas out the freezer, then sticking them under the xbox ?

You never know, it might work at least cooling the box so you can play it this evening.

    HTH
It could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.

it will require hours to cool

if i remember correctly, some of the components can operate an near 1000 Celsius

so need a long time to cool

but you said it happened after 10 mins, which makes me think its a hint that RROD failure is coming

and forget about the rubbish they feed you about the newer models

it still happens ALOT. not as much mind you but it is still ridiculous.

you need to keep te left hand side of your xbox extremely cool (left side when the xbox is upright and facing towards you)

as this is where the RROD occurs

read the link in the post above

i gave a bit more detail on it then.
    Back by no demand whatsoever.

if i took it back to hmv would they be likely to replace it? i have heard that they often do.

    no they wont

they wont even repair i dont think

not until you allow it sufficient time to cool

even then its better just to deal with x box as they have a rather streamlined system for handling with the red light issues now (2 or 3)
