I am sooooooo waiting for them to invite her to contribute to their alumni association when she leaves................
Is that the University or the old Instute? Because I am at the Institute and alothough it's not the best university in the world they gave me £1200 and said if there was any money left over at the end of the year they may give me more which would be great.0 -
Just a quick note to say "thanks". Am in my final year of uni and as well as stressing about exams, have been stressing about money! Didn't know about this Learning Fund until read your post and have now applied. Don't know how much i'll get but anything helps!
Thanks!0 -
Hi all,
Just to remind you all that have been following this thread - it is time to start applying for the Summer Fund if you're eligible. There is usually only a couple of weeks for applications to be submitted so get on the case ASAP.
As ever, if you need any help completing the forms etc. Just ask.

My daughter got a summer fund form and its the same as the access to learning change of circumstances one theystill want all the information unfortunately. Also it says if you are using this form to claim summer fund you must apply after 16th June, I thought that was pretty late.
Shes going to ask them what she has to do about providing accom costs proof for her new student house as she doesnt move in that till I think july 8th so she wont have the tenancy agreement yet but she wants to try and claim more because shes having to stay in student accom all year now rather than come home in summer due to a nursing placement that is too far away from home. She did provide them with proof of accom up until 8th July but shes now paying out fr another 2 months extra I really hope they will accept it.
Do you think someones got the date wrong as they wrote it on in pencil on the form June 16thThanx

Do all unis (that have the ALF) have summer funds? I went to the student Advice Centre of my uni and asked for a hardship loan form.. they said 'sorry, it's now summer'... they didn't even mention the summer fund..0 -

I would phone the student finance office direct & double check. The Summer fund starts from anytime around now although every Uni will differ depending on their term structure etc.

As a rule most will have a summer fund, they may not call it that but they usually have something similar. Most Uni's apportion a good chunk of thier ALF money from the DfES to the Summer Fund at the beginning of the academic year as a student can fall into financial difficulty at any point. If they have said that they don't, I would contact the student finance office direct & confirm that - and ask them what they then advise you do.
Good luck,

Daughter rang them and they said its got to be after 16th June and she cannot apply without the new tenancy agreement with her signature on that covers her through the summer. But she is not moving in the new private student house till July 8th when her halls accom terminates. They said she can still apply for the summer fund then and it wont be too late but I'm a bit concerned in case it runs out.
Do they have a set amount they give for the summer fund or do they just work out how much you need according to your expenditure like the access to learning as my daughter didnt bither going for a re assesment on the ATL as she thought she might get less on the summer fund thats if she gets any as shes a student nurseThanx
